So... I own: An NES, an SNES, a Sega Genesis (with CD--both second model), a TurboGrafx-16 AND a PC-Engine, a Playstation 1, and a Nintendo 64. And a Game Gear and a Gameboy Advance.
Maybe it's because I have them all hooked up in a small room (not by choice, but by necessity), but I find that when I look at all my systems and all the games I have, I get very indecisive and can't bring myself to play much of anything, in fact it's almost like I'm repelled by the sight of them. So a few days ago, I unhooked all my systems and put them away in drawers.
Suddenly, I felt better... there was just something pure about seeing that TV sitting there, with naught but a DVD player to accompany it. No tons of wires plugged into the wall outlet, no A/V cables all over the place and getting tangled up. It's funny, but when I'm at a relative's house and all they have is a Gamecube or an NES, I feel nothing wrong about picking up a controller and playing those, but here at home it's completely different because even when I finally do decide on something, rarely am I satisfied and tend to feel like I should play something else. It's like the fewer games I have handy, the more inclined I am to play them, but when I know I have over 100 to choose from and across several systems to boot, it becomes too much and I simply don't want to play ANY of them.
Anyone else ever have this problem?

Dude... you're not the only one. I have had many, many, MANY moments where indecision prevents me from playing a single game at all, and I just lie around doing a whole bunch of nothing. Truly, I'm not the best at making decisions, and when there's too many good things to choose from... I can't explain it, but sometimes I just don't play a damn one! You hit on a problem that, I have a feeling, other people also have had happened to them. When you have more than 100 NES games, it gets pretty irritating... but factoring in all of the other systems...

My problem is that I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to adding in future systems. I have a pretty big entertainment center, and every inch of shelf space is filled with all of my systems. Yet I know I need to get some more systems because I have games for US PS2, Saturn, Mega CD, and PSP, but no systems yet to play them on. And I'll need a 360 whenever the new tri-Ace game comes out.
Although, at least I don't have to worry about switching around hook ups much anymore. Sometimes I would just say "screw it" to the idea of playing something just because I wasn't in the mood to change the S-video cable behind the TV or switch in a new plug into the outlet. However, now I got an S-video switcher and three power strips behind the TV (going to different outlets, don't worry, haha), so there's very little I don't have instant access to.

back when I still had my stuff in an entertainment center (moved out of appartment, went to University dorms) I had all my stuff stewn about. But I typically played whatever I was in the mood for.
Concerning systems I have a lot of titles for; I like to gravitate towards titles I haven't finished yet, or titles that I enjoyed Emensely.

I have about 300 games overall(about 250 NES games). If anything, my collection makes an interesting conversation piece.

I have that problem, but I don't have very many games. I've got maybe 16 PS2 games, 10 PS1 games, 5 DS games, 3 GBA games, and 5 PC games. I wish I was the kind of person who could just get one game, play the hell out of it to completion, get rid of it, then get another game. But whenever a game comes out I am interested in, I drop what I'm currently playing and get that. So then I lose interest in the previous game, etc etc. Eventually I get sick of looking at all the game sitting there unplayed and I put a lot of them up on Ebay. Then the cycle repeats. I don't think I've actually finished a game since Silent Hill 2 on the PS2 back when it first came out.

Frankly I don't think I have enough Heh, same here. Just about every time I visit EB Games, even if I'm only there to do something like pre-order or trade-in, I always end up walking out with at least one new game.

I'm kinda trying to get out of that phase, been buying some games but concentrating on one, but when I'm bored or irritated with the title, I switch for a short while to another. Believe it or not, I first learned how to do that in PE, something called active rest.

lol I know I've made a couple topics like this elsewhere over the years, b/c I def. felt that way at many points. These days though I don't think about it or let it bother me. IMO it's only when you want to analyze it does it become really apparent.

While my game collection might pale in comparison with most of yours, I still feel like I have too many games. I'd like to sell some of them because I know I will never play them again. I've also noticed that it's especially bad to buy 2 or more new games at the same time; not only can it get expensive, but there's not enough time to play both of them. And then it feels like I'm buying games just to buy them.

I recently sold most of my Genesis collection -- 130 games, b/c I knew 1. I lost the passion to play them and 2. They were just cluttering the house up So I sold over 100 and the rest will be eBay'ed later this year. Hell, one guy bought 45 games from me and thanks to him I'm making $412 out of it! Trust me, it's worth it to sell games you got no interest in any more

Good decision to unhook them all. Sometimes you gotta start from scratch and get back to a place of simplicity. I feel ya when you talk about seeing clutter like that and almost being repelled. Do what ya gotta do!

I'd be more than happy to take some genny games off your hands provided they're in acceptable condition (boxed) and not duplicates.
