Hey there you American types! I am going to be heading over to the USA at the end of January, to LA and I was wondering if you had any recommendations for me? Where would be fun to visit? Any exciting landmarks? Anywhere that I as a gamer would go "whooooah!" in a "whoooah what a mansion" kind of way upon seeing? This is my first trip out of the UK so I would really like it to be both memorable and totally awesome. C'mon, I know someone wants to help

I wish I could, but I'm not the travelling type. Hell, you'll probably see more interesting sights on that trip that I have in a lifetime. Though, I can tell you that you don't have to look very hard for excitement in LA. Just be careful... coming from a suburban country boy, huge cities frighten me. Though, if they excite you, lots of power to ya.

I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of LA. There's a lot of seedy, rundown areas - which is technically the same of any major city, but...there's just a lot of them there.
I've only been there for E3, so the only real sites I've seen is Hollywood Blvd, where the Chinese Theatre and stuff is, down the road from that huge famous sign. Not sure what else is there. If you have the time and means, try to check out San Francisco, it's a much nicer city.
But then again, since I live on the east coast, I'm much more of a New York City guy. I love that place.

Hollywood believe it or not is pretty dirty and crime-ridden. San Diego is very close and you should take trip there. It's only a quick bus ride from LA. When you are in the area don't forget to try out some Mexican food because they have some of the best in the country over there. The beaches in the area are some of the best as well, especially if you like surfing. If you are into that sort of thing, Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Park is actually a lot fun, especially if you have a group of people. I just remembering when I went like 6 years ago so I hope you can find some other stuff. Also, Discoalucard, where in NJ are you? Maybe we could set up a gaming tournament or something if you are close especially since I'm getting a Wii this week...

LA? You'll have fun, just don't let the traffic get to you.

"Now, for this week, I'll just be going to the stands and interviewing some of our audience. Tell me, what's your name, eh?"
"Yes, hello, I'm [insert name here]"
"And what is it that you've got here, I see you've got a little box, right there."
"Oh, that's my Wii"
"YOUR WEE?!"
"Yeah, uh-"
"C'mon, show us the box, don't be afraid, SHOW YOUR MANHOOD"
And then the audience applauds as our friendly nerd raises the box of his new Wii.
Personally, I find it easy to imagine that actually happening, Jay Leno can make you do crazy stuff like that.

I went to Conan earlier in the year. It was awesome. Saw the Colbert Report too.

This whole thread reminds me of Dr. Tran. He's a DOCTOR. From AMERICA. With a patriotic COWBOY HAT!

I'm at Rutgers in New Brunswick not so far from you, Discoalucard. Let's host a classic gaming thing in the area or something. We do also have the Underground Gaming Society meetings on campus at 9:30 PM on Thursdays. You should come down.
