Good catch - guess he meant 5200. That came out, too.

The end of the second paragraph: "But other than its forerunners, it was build on more systematic mechanics inherited by Donkey Kong, and is all the more playable for it."
"It was built" and considering when the game came out, should this not be "inherited from Donkey Kong"?

It definitely should (and is now).

Is this the only game to have ever been named after diarrhea? (Call of Duty doesn't count)

A good example of what I like to call "The Great American Flip-Screen Platformer". This kind of game got somewhat of a renaissance during the early nineties shareware boom, though I personally found those games a bit lacking.
The classics Pitfall and Pharaohs Curse was already mentioned. Other similar games are the Datasoft 'trilogy' of Bruce Lee, Conan and Zorro. The arcade games Hero and Freeze also shares some similarities with these platformers.
You really ought to do that - and make a comparison between the American, European(British and Spanish mostly) and Japanese flip-screen platformers. I'm looking forward to it!

I never noticed this topic (or article) until now, but since it's been bumped, I figure I'll pop my head in. Montezuma's Revenge is an AWESOME game -- still just as engaging now as it was back in its day. I just played through it myself recently, and enjoyed it immensely -- but the reason I'm posting is because the version I played through isn't mentioned in the article, as I played through it on MSX. Now, granted, this is a fan port -- it's just the Colecovision version ported wholesale to MSX, and included as part of a compilation of Colecovision and Sega SG-1000 ports called "Muffie's Tutankham" -- but still, since the article does mention fan remakes, I think it's probably worth mentioning Muffie's Tutankham as well. www.ebsoft.fr/shop/en/home/11-muffie-s-titankham-conversion-classic-edition.html-Tom

It also seems like Montezuma would have been the first boss fight in a platform game ever (unless you count Donkey Kong and its clones, where essentially the whole game is a boss fight), if Parker Brothers had kept him in and came up with a way to defeat him. That way the honor was left to Ghosts'n Goblins / Super Mario Bros. a year later. If it was released before GnG you could make a case that the arcade version of Pitfall was the first platformer to feature bosses (the two fire-breathing statues).
