All Post Mortem videos, past and present, can be watched here!As part of HG101's ever expanding efforts to document classic games, GC9X hosts Snarboo and KaL present the GC9X Post Mortem! What is the Post Mortem exactly? Think of it as a video companion to the podcasts! For each Post Mortem we play through a specific game, summarize its strengths and weaknesses, then score it twice: once from a modern perspective, and then again from a more contemporary viewpoint. Our ultimate goal then is to review each game as fairly as possible, trying to take into account when a game was released in addition to any other factors, such as overall quality. Videos are generally released every few weeks, so be sure to check in frequently for new updates! Last 3 Post Mortems

A lot of work goes into these so I hope everyone enjoys it! We've got a big list of games to look at but we're always open for suggestions.
If you want to know our inspiration behind doing this we're sort of really sick of the way retro-games and gaming in general seem to be covered on Youtube and in popular Video Game media. Not all the games we'll cover will be good, even when they were released but there's a real attitude of bitter cynicism prevailing in plenty of online communities and it's really a shame that literally decades of gaming history are dismissed with a casual handwave or misrepresented to the point of meaninglessness.
We've always been passionate about games and all the little things they tried to do, whether they succeeded or failed, whether they ever actually influenced everything and we want to share that passion with the audience. Gaming is a rich tapestry that's so casually dismissed with disconnected skits, bad comedy and yelling. Hopefully we can change that even if it's just a little bit, while still being entertaining!

I'm also enjoying these. The intro is INSANE.
Btw. I've just started the Bubsy one... there was actually a company called Aardvark Software who released a few home computer games in the UK in the late '80s...

Yeah, KaL is really talented and it's amazing how good it looked in even the rough cut format. And as tough as it is to even edit something to put in censor sounds, I'm surprised you guys were able to do this in such a short period of time. Great work!

Oh thanks a lot for confirming this, I had trouble digging up an Aardvark and couldn't believe no one had used the name. Thanks for the kind words guys!

Really late to the Praise Party, but I've also been really enjoying these Post Mortems. They're a good, fresh take on the usual way that video game reviews are handled on Youtube, and the more informative nature makes it more interesting. At the very least, you got a constant viewer in me!

Well we really appreciate it, quite a bit of work goes in and we haven't had a big impact yet but with quality and good fans we'll get there hopefully!

I haven't seen this one yet but am looking forward to it; We only rented The Ooze once, but I have very distinct memories of it.

This is an absolutely incredible show. If you take donations, please tell me where I can put my money.
The only thing I don't like about the format is the 1 to 10 points scheme you are using. I think it cheapens your very good analyses if you reduce them to the (kinda useless) magazine point system.
I know how much work must go into these videos, so thank you so much again and please keep making them!

I finally got around to watching the Bubsy episode today. It's nice to see a look at the game that goes beyond "Bubsy is so bad lol." It's no enduring classic by any stretch. and it definitely has plenty of design flaws, but it's a reasonably enjoyable game and was quite impressive when it was new.

Thanks a lot man it means a lot to actually hear people compliment the videos (especially coming all the way onto the forums). I'll probably set something up specifically for more videos which we'll make people aware of when it happens. A new one is coming I've just been super busy. As for the point score, it's a bother because while I don't like to devalue the criticism leading up to it there's a special kind of thought that churns when you have to number something but more importantly it's to contextualise how we feel compared to the scores that other people are handing out. If the fanbase doesn't want numbers, we'll take them out but for now they'll be there.
