Geeze, how does that even happen? I can understand bugs slipping through here and there, but how can they justify shipping a game that's fundamentally broken? Not everybody has internet.

Why bother releasing a functional game when you can just bribe/coerce most of your audience into pre-ordering your game months before they even know if it's any good or not? Just don't forget to set up a review embargo to hide your game's issues! Whatever it takes to ensure that your valued suckers customers maximize those first week sales!

First week sales are great, but having first week sales plus a long tail is even better.
If sales crash and burn once word gets out, I can't really see that as advantageous.

not that it's not dumb but aren't we writing this game off a little quick because of this issue?

We'll see if it gets patched properly, until then it's not going to get a sale from me.

not that it's not dumb but aren't we writing this game off a little quick because of this issue? Well the last Wolfenstein tanked, so it wouldn't hurt if they didn't screw up and required patch.

It tanked but it was actually rather fun, the multiplayer was HORRIBLE though.

not that it's not dumb but aren't we writing this game off a little quick because of this issue? I'm not criticizing the game, I'm criticizing the "ship now, patch later" mentality, and the toxic business practices in which the majority of video game marketing revolves around trying to get people to buy games before they're released without enough information to make an informed decision.

Reviews are usually based on pre-patch (sometimes pre-release) code, so if the AI is fucked in the shipping version, that doesn't bode well for sales after the preorder rush.
The game could be cool as hell after a few patches, but bad Metacritic scores are hard to turn around.
