Does anyone have any advice for finding alien bases? I've only ever found one so far in Hawaii, and I'm sure that was by pure fluke. I want to say there's been one in Europe or the North Pole for awhile now, but sending out Skyrangers and Interceptors have done nothing to uncover it.

I almost never try to go out of my way to find alien bases; they usually just pop up on their own during standard gameplay for me.

Power Armor is nice! I researched the UFO Power Source, Elerium 115 and then it popped up. MAJOR improvement over personal armor.

Yeah, Personal Armor is only mildly more effective at defending against alien weapons than blocking a plasma bolt using only your face.
Power Armor, on the other hand, actually has a solid chance of keeping someone alive!
You can learn how to build Flying Armor, too! It offers even better defense than Power Armor, and as the name implies, it allows you to fly.

Power Armor and Flying Armor are so cool. They're totally badass, and really relieving to come across in your research

Flying Armor has a slight defense buff over Powered Armor, mostly to the wearer's back. They both can also fully absorb AC-HE shots, making that a useful weapon against Sectoids. After all, you might be able to absorb AC-HE, but they can't.

I got a terror mission with Chrysalids, I did my best but then reloaded and got the fuck out. What the hell, seriously...

I'm still lucky enough not to run into Crysalids. For me it's been Floaters, Floaters, Floaters, Floaters... and sometimes Reapers. I'm still in March though. Just started an assault on a Very Large UFO this morning. As a Night Mission. Which reminds me: do you ever get Night Vision equipment, or is it just tossing electro-flares 'til endgame? Question: how good are Heavy Weapon Platforms against Crysalids? Related Question: If you max out your Laser research tree, can you make a Laser HWP? Or Plasma?

I ignore flares in favor of AC-I.
They'll tank a couple hits before falling apart, but not great.
Nope. You get Laser Hovertanks.

I haven't really messed with incendiary rounds yet. Now's a good time to start

It doesn't do much damage on it's own, but it's invaluable for night missions.
Also try not to set your tanks on fire.

There are no other options for lighting up dark areas aside from electro-flares, or shooting incendiary rounds at the landscape. As far as general heavy weapon platforms, one benefit they have over normal soldiers against Chryssalids is that they can't be zombified But they can still be demolished if a Chryssalid gets too close to them.
