TGGCIFE for short! Proposed by our own Bobinator, the TGGCIFE will be a text adventure written in Inform 7, comprised of contributions from multiple users stitched together end-to-end like a horrifying human centipede into a complete - and hopefully entertainingly bizarre - interactive adventure! While we're still hammering out the details, the rules so far are as follows: - Each contributor gets to add one room.
- The goal of each room will be to get to the next contributor's room.
- Each contributor must include one object intended to be carried over to the next room. (With the exception of the ending room, wherever that ends up being!)
- In return, each contributor's room must use the object carried over from the previous contributor's room. (With the obvious exception of the starting room, of course.)
Contributions to this project will likely be handled via GitHub, so if you have any interest in adding your own flavor of insanity to this project, be sure to look up how to use it (and Inform 7) before you declare your interest in participating in this glorious trainwreck grand endeavor! Happy adventure-making, everyone! It is pitch dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Definitely interested in this! Any sort of time limit, and what sort of order do we go in, or do we add as we go along?

Okay, as discussed in the IRC (and as I'll add to the first post), each contributor gets a 48-hour "lock" for adding their contribution. You're not disqualified or anything if you take too long, but if you do, the next contributor can take their turn. (If you're this close to finishing, or extenuating circumstances keep you from putting in a reasonable amount of work in 48 hours, feel free to post to that effect - this is a collaboration, not a competition!)
With this in mind, you can work on your contribution when it's not your turn! But the wrinkle with this is that you must incorporate the previous contributor's "carry-over" object in some meaningful fashion, so you'll probably have to rework your contribution before it's ready to add to the project!
On that subject, there's been talk about having some kind of skeleton or template so that contributors have an idea how to get started (as a bonus, this might help us keep submissions consistent). I'll see what I can do on that front. :3

This will be fun. I need to find time to mess around with Inform.

I know basically nothing about Inform, but I would like to give this a go.

Sure, I can give this a try. No idea how to use Inform either, but I've used Adrift before. Unless it requires tons of coding, it cant be that difficult.

As a first step, I'd recommend downloading it and reading the documentation. It comes in two parts: "Writing with Inform," which is a front-to-back topic-by-topic explanation of Inform 7 (e.g. descriptions, actions, scenes, phrases), and the "Recipe Book," which is organized by subject (e.g. characters, vehicles, money, liquids).
I'll update the header with more info soon.

I'd like to do a room, too! Programming text adventures sounds like much more fun than actually playing them...

What a great idea! Alas, I am going to be too overloaded for the next few weeks.

Would like to join. This is something I've been wanting to do for a while, even though I was planning on making a whole game rather than one room.
If any of you guys wants to write a room but doesn't know/want to learn how to program it in, I'd be willing to put it in - just send a PM over when you're ready.

So it's an adventure game cadavre exquis? That's a great idea. I'd like to participate, I just don't know anything about programming. I guess I'll try to check out Inform.
