"Shinobi". The name sounds cool; when it appeared, no-one really knew what it really meant, but everybody knew it had a mysterious link with ninjas - and ninjas are supposed to be mysterious, right? I also appreciate the name "Shinobi," if only because it helped put the word "shinobi" into the public consciousness. The word "shinobi" and the word "ninja" are actually pretty much the same thing -- "ninja" is just more formal. Basically, the word "ninja," written out in Japanese, is just the "shinobi" kanji followed by the kanji for "person." Since they're more or less exactly the same word at their core, you'll hear the more casual word "shinobi" a lot more in common Japanese speech. Though not a perfect comparison, "ninja" is like calling someone a "fire fighter," whereas "shinobi" is like calling someone a "fireman." It may not be as "elegant" a term, but it's definitely the one you hear most in common parlance. -Tom When SEGA released the first "Shinobi" in 1987, I think I thought it was some bullsh*t word that sounded good! Nowadays the mystique is a bit faded since a lot of people have learned the term. Of course, nowadays the "it" word is Shinovi, as iin Senran Kagura SHINOVI versus. You worked on that one too? Because I happily bought it, and though it is objectively better than Burst, I prefer the latter for its nostalgia factor. Great work on the series anyway; I really dig the relaxed, goofy ambiance, and the characters are actually pretty endearing - I like the eating contest skits. So congrats on bringing it here. And thank you!

Of course, nowadays the "it" word is Shinovi, as iin Senran Kagura SHINOVI versus. That's really just a Shinovi Versus thing. And the word itself is just a weird sort of portmanteau of "shinobi" and "Vita." The more you know! Only a bit. My time was spent more on Akiba's Trip than on Shinovi Versus (though I did do some cursory editing for it here and there). Thanks for the kind words either way, though! I actually prefer Burst, myself (I find the gameplay less frustrating and I appreciate that the story takes itself more seriously), but they're both good games overall -- for what they are, anyway. -Tom

Yeah, Burst has this breezy retro charm and a not so shallow gameplay, and yep, versus is a bit... Hard.

I'm very fond of the title AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! – A Reckless Disregard for Gravity because it's so ridiculous it loops back around to being genuinely amusing.
I also really like the title for the original Parasite Eve. Those two words perfectly represent the game and its content in a way that is both incredibly accurate yet not too on the nose.

This game was just announced: www.siliconera.com/2015/03/03/oxenfree-looks-to-be-a-supernatural-teen-thriller-in-its-debut-trailer/And qualifies as something with a really cool, intriguing name, I'd say. As soon as I saw "Oxenfree" and read the genre, I knew it was going to be a slasher-style adventure where you're being chased by an evil entity of some sort and have to try your best to hide from it. Kind of surprised no one else has used that title up till now (though for all I know, someone has!). -Tom

How about Gigantic Army? Not only it has a nice ring to it,but it also fits the game well considering how freaking huge the bosses are.

First, it sounds great, It feels like it could have been an AC/DC song. And the logo looks good. Great font. After that, the knowledge of what it actually is and does evokes ultra-speed and general badassery; and "Burner" makes me think of awesome destruction. one of the best Super-scaler games' names, methinks. It totally rocks, just like its deservedly legendary soundtrack.

It's hard to think of other names that stick out and are as memorable to me as D-Xhird.
Though XEXEX and XEXYZ are pretty memorable too. Though I'd only say I like the former, and not the latter.
Axelay was a pretty neat name, too.
Most of the time, throwing an X in the name makes it sound pretty good, even if in the end, I end up indifferent to it (Zaxxon) or finding it pretentious (Axiom Verge).

While I take issue with the game itself I really like Path of Exile. It gives the impression of an unforgiving lonely journey which, when the game first came around the atmosphere along with the difficulty definately fit that label. Now they toned down the first play through enough its not really intimidating at all but the creative side of it is still really cool. If it wasn't for the assinine way equipment and skills work I bet I'd still be playing it now and then.
I also really like Rez. Can't say why, just do.

I also rather liked Mutation Nation, which I wish I had remembered earlier. I just like how that sounds. Sometimes game names that rhyme are kind of fun to say.
