I still have this game in my Steam library, so I received on my feed some news about it. Since it's 2021 and virtual YouTubers, or VTubers, are all the rage now, the developers decided to turn Makoto and Akira into VTubers in order to milk the franchise even more. They're very thorough about it, with official Twitter and Reddit pages, their own Discord, an official name for the fandom, all sorts of dedicated hashtags and such. Didn't expect they were still pushing this game to be a hit among (d)weebs.
The actual reason however, as far as I can understand from the Steam updates, is that OVERDRIVE is about to close up shop, so the president wanted to make yet another game/iteration of the Go! Go! Nippon visual novel with even more improvement, including voice acting, before saying goodbye. I wish them well but I think these things have to happen organically, I think it's kind of forced to engineer interest around a 5-year-old game that has a very niche audience by default. Or they genuinely just want to cater to the VTuber audience?
