I just thought of another game that could qualify: the Genesis version of Bubba 'n' Stix was made into a promotional tie-in for Bubblicious bubblegum. Pretty solid game, too, although later levels are pretty BS. Are there other games that did the region specific tie-in thing?

As for product placement, Pikmin 2 is a good example, simply because you forget its even there. Do you remember picking up a Duracell, for instance? How about the lid to a Vlasic pickle jar? I did forget about it, haha. I mostly just remembered Nintendo's own product placement in Pikmin. But, yeah, that product placement was put to use very effectively. It's not in-your-face, but it acts as an eery reminder that the planet you're on is actually Earth, even though humans seem to be gone and all that's left of us is discarded little artifacts of our daily lives. You could argue that maybe you're just in a remote, unpopulated area that people only visit for hiking or something, leaving behind things along the way, but the possibilities are still a little unsettling.

I always thought that the 32-bit versions of Spot Goes to Hollywood were really good, although they didn't even try to even so much as mention 7-Up at any point. I'm not really fond of the Genesis version, though, since it felt like Cool Spot if the controls were worse and it was twice as slow. Also, nobody's brought up Chex Quest, yet! I'm disappointed in you people. There's three full episodes you can get here. If you're any good at Doom, it probably won't take you more than an afternoon to finish, but there's some cool level designs in there. They even managed to make something that looks like a movie theatre in the Doom engine.

Are there other games that did the region specific tie-in thing? Well, there was the Wahoo Taco coupon included with Klonoa Wii. (Still wouldn't've redeemed it even I could've. That bit of ephemera is too funny)

While not a real example, I'd like to mention that I bought a can of Axe recently because it had a peace symbol on it. It reminded me how there were cans of Axe in Japanese version of Peace Walker.

Axe is absolutely everywhere in Rainbow Six Vegas. There is a hidden outtakes reel in an early level if you shoot one specific can.

We had this game on our first PC. It's a puzzle game about an electrician named Bernie, made by Siemens

There were the two Chester Cheetah games for SNES and Genesis. And Burger King made three promotional games for Xbox around 2006. There was a bike racer, a bumper car game, and the great Sneak King which were based of their creepy commercials. I believe you could only buy them at Burger King stores.

Sneak King is amazing for how absurd it is. It could have used some gameplay tweaks (people tend to pass out too quickly from hunger, so you have to plan carefully which people to hit first, or else you will lose a chance to get points or run out of time waiting for them to wake up again), but the concept was certainly good for a couple hours of fun, which is pretty good for a two dollar game.

There was the European version of Konami's Biker Mice from Mars game, which has product placement for Snickers on it, going as far as having purchasable Snickers in-game to restore your character's energy.

I liked Darkened Skye, I think. I don't remember why.

Wait a minute... Guys, we forgot Zillion for the SEGA Master System! SEGA sold the gun JJ uses as a laser tag toy, and the game was more or less a promotion for it. (Even moreso than the dreadful Tri-Formation). The HG 101 article which explains the facts. One of the SMS' best intros... ...which nicely showcases the toy gun.

Pepsiman was effective and fun. Is the Yoshinoya PS2 game any good?

I played (and made a fan-translation patch for) a Famicom first-person adventure/shooter game called Photon: The Ultimate Game on Planet Earth, before realizing it was also a game based on a toy gun. ... oddly released the same year as Zillion. Was that the hot thing for game licensing that year?
