There was a thread on NeoGAF sometime ago about K7's story, and how it basically makes a LOT more sense if it is viewed as a final game of an unofficial "Kill the Past" tetralogy, the first three games being Moonlight Syndrome, The Silver Case and The Flower Sun and Rain. I'd really love to see a translation for The Silver Case *wink wink*

Feel so old! Played Killer7 on Gamecube back in 2005. Easily one of the most unique gaming experiences I've ever had. The story really doesn't make any sense at face value, but that's half of the appeal.
They just don't make crazy ass Japanese games like that anymore.

Heh, I don't remember Flower Sun and Rain making much sense either, though xD That one I actually played. But maybe playing all three in a row it suddenly does, in a Stockholm kind of way. Not that I would ever want to replay FS&R, because it's interestingly crazy, but plays like ass, but that's where LPs come in I guess.

Ten Years ago Capcom were completely on top, with Resident 4 and others like Killer 7. It's been a rough ten years.

I felt like it sort of made more sense, on some level, after playing No More Heroes. Not that I thought the stories were related or anything, but it made Suda's "Japan vs. USA" fascination the more clear. I always felt that the hardest thing to understand in Killer7 is who Harman was, and how life and death actually work in that setting. The Samantha thing is what really threw all of that into confusion for me.

Samantha was two different people, the real one and the maid one we see with Deity Harman. Rather, the maid one was a construct made by Harman, as all the seven besides Garcian are also constructs based on people Garcian killed. When Samantha was killed, the maid version took over her body, which seems supported by the game's villain appearing again as the red suit guy in physical form. These two guys can interact with the world by taking over certain bodies (or making other personas to use a body), and they affect the perception of those that work for them.
That may be why we see young Harman in the spirit world. The real Harman died a long time ago and the deity named Harman took his body and used it to have influence on the world.

They just don't make crazy ass Japanese games like that anymore. They sure don't. I remember when I played Illbleed on an emulator back in 2012 I felt like I had taken some hard drugs because at that point it had been years since I played a crazy Japanese game and was not used to it anymore, I miss them. that's also why Deadly Premonition became such a cult classic because crazy Japanese games like that were almost unheard of by 2010, had the game come out 5 to 6 years prior it never would have made that same impact.

It also helped that Deadly Premonition was the best licensed Twin Peaks game never made.

Yeah, but that writer's a quack. It's not unofficial, though. It's official. TSC, FSR, and K7 are the Kill The Past trilogy. The Syndrome games loosely tie into TSC, but his company didn't own those, so all you see is the protagonist from Syndrome as a killer in the prologue of TSC.

I'll bump this thread for a plug: I'm hosting a panel for Suda at Comic-Con next week. If there's anything you'd like to ask him, fire away here and I'll try to work it into the discussion. The panel will cover just about everything he's done, so I can't spend too much time on Killer7 (about which you could host an entire team policy debate). It'll get some attention, though.

I would like to know if Lily Bergamo becoming Let It Die was HIS idea, or corporate/GungHo's. He was very candid about corporate interference with some of his post-K7 games in the GHM artbook. If that question is taboo(and I have a feeling it might be, NO ONE is asking him Lily questions), ask him about the assassin that tries to kill Travis at the end of No More Heroes 1. Is that Emir/Garcian? It would be nice to know for sure. Heck, I might want to know that more. Someone already asked about TSC at the GDC in Spain, so I don't need to bug him about the remake. (Though I still want him to know people want it.) Some food for thought if you ask about a TSC remake: how far was the DS version? Did it have gameplay enhancements? Would a newer remake get voice acting or updated art? Lastly, that finished DS version of TSC he has? Give him my address so I can have it.

I was always hoping for a 3DS or Vita port of Killer7; I never finished it, I got up to the wrestler... too many good games on PS2 to play is my excuse.

Who had the most creative input in Shadows of the Damned?
