So I think it's a bummer that the Video Game Music forum is as slow as it is. Might as well be active myself! I wasn't sure if it would be best to search for and necropost on old applicable threads or just start my own. I thought starting my own would be the best bet. I'm sure there's already an old thread like this somewhere. Maybe more than one. But here's a new one. Post your favorite tunes from Shmups/STGs. It can be in the form of a top X list or just a random tune or two. Just bring on the shmup goodness. I absolutely adore everything about Dangun Feveron. It's a shame it's one of the few CAVE games not to make it out of the arcade in any way. Every song on the DF OST is golden this is one of my favorite tracks though. Shippu Mahou Daisakusen is one I've yet to actually play (Though I've been meaning to snag a copy for my Saturn) but it has a fantastic soundtrack all the same. With songs composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata it's hard to go wrong. Basiscape crew! Musha Aleste as I'm sure most know is quite fantastic. I got an Everdrive mainly to play this without paying an absurd amount of money. As well as the other Genesis shmups which have become exorbitantly expensive. There. One CAVE, One Raizing, One Compile. That's pretty good company coverage. Now post your favorite shmup tracks.

I think the Random Tune thread would generally work fine for this, but shmup music does tend to follow a specific style.
I'm quite fond of music from the Gundemonium trilogy, like the one below.
Recca's soundtrack is nice as well, and fits the fast speed the game is known for.
Not sure if tracks that didn't appear in the original count, but this Gradius 3 medley is quite good.

Yeah You're probably right. I just was interested in hearing some shmup specific songs. Like you said they adhere to a particular style most of the time. This is also a good way for me to get exposed to more shmups through their music. Also I guess I was nervous, since people aren't posting super frequently in the random tunes thread, I didn't know how it would be received if there were just a bunch of posts in a row of me posting music. Maybe that's silly. I'm new here so I guess I'm still feeling the place out. Arrange music is totally fine too btw.

Boy the Mushihimesama Futari soundtrack makes me feel good inside. This particular track almost sounds like it belongs in Kirby 64

Ah, well I dont think that you need to worry about posting too much in that thread since it'd probably make other people more inclined to share music they like as well (and the forum's generally laidback from what I've found - although I haven't been here long either). Shmups from the West aren't that common, but I've found that they also have some nice soundtracks (like Tyrian and Jamestown, which are good but probably not the best.

Anything from Salamander. Somehow the MSX version sounds more arcade-y than the actual YM2151 source version:

Touhou is almost cheating. There are so many of them and all of the music is so good. This could easily become a Touhou thread if you get me started.

It's interesting how CAVE often goes for this harsh techno or chill dance style music in their games. I like it a lot.
Espgaluda II is just such a good game too. I mean all of these games are but damn. ESPG2 has some of the prettiest background work I've seen in a shmup. Most CAVE games have really pretty background work but I liked ESPG2's particularly for whatever reason.

Ou! I had to get my headphones for this thread =3
Probably the game and first song that made me a fan of shmups. I really need to play Deathsmiles again.
Still can't beat it, but I totally bought the game based on the ost. Those old chiptunes are so amazing.
You know, many shooters start with strong stage 1 tracks, then kind of settle down until the final stage/boss. Crimzon Clover feels like a musical journey to me. In my opinion, the music explodes with you launching, then moves with different cues (I used a few for a score run) in different areas, until it builds and crescendos to the final area. Not even the final stage, this is where the game climaxes for me. Either everything is clicking and I'm enjoying my high before the final stage, or I'm face palming and slacking away from a serious run. Iono, just lots of personal emotion and moments with this track.

Deathsmiles is one I've yet to play. I should really get it. I need to beef up my 360 shmup collection in general. Thankfully they're not crazy expensive for the most part like say, Saturn shmups are. Crimzon Clover is also really freaking good. Haven't played Sky Shark but the soundtrack is pretty sweet.

there are sooo many!!! Here is a first batch:
It rocks.
A perfect melody, although it is sped up here for reasons unknown.
A fantastic version of a classic. the Parodius soundtrack is really something else!
Another marvel from TecnoSoft, masters of FM...
