Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is an amazing game <3 I should replay it someday to see how my second playthrough differs from the first. SH:SM is a very underrated game, it's not as good as 1-3 but it's leagues ahead of any of the other games post 4, I think it's a shame Climax was never given another stab at the series. This reminds me, it's actually been well over 3 years now since I last played, I should replay it soon as well.

I forgot all about Duke Nukem 3D! That reminds me that I should get around to playing the Caribbean expansion pack. Duke Nukem 3D. Interestingly Duke Nukem 64 takes place during daytime. I cant figure out why. Remember when Duke Nukem used to be a meme, then after Forever was finally released he promptly ceased to be? It makes me kind of sad. Ever since Forever came out, I sometimes see people online say that Duke Nukem games have always been bad, but 3D I think is genuinely an incredible FPS, despite what reputation Duke has. I only played it for the first time in 2011 so I'm not speaking from nostalgia or anything.

I only played it for the first time in 2011 so I'm not speaking from nostalgia or anything. The only thing I think is wrong with the game is that every level really starts to get kind of long in the tooth. But then again so does Outlaws's levels. And if I suck that game off any harder I'll have a testicle in my windpipe. So maybe, I'm not being fair. But Duke 3D's levels are kind of dull. Like the first episode is really quite good. All kinds of set pieces and bits I remember. But, it starts wavering halfway through the first episode. And by the second it's lost me. A lot of the levels I have to remind myself that they weren't in DOOM II. It just all becomes so forgettable, and overstays it's welcome. And this is speaking from Nostalgia, having played it in like 1999. Which I just realized how long ago that was. Holy hell. Not even like I feel old. It's just that it always feels like I first played Duke 3D a couple of years ago.

Duke's greatest strength always lay in interactivity and levels with personality. Lights that switch, stuff that you can use for no reason, toilets, movie references, that one switch in the Red Light District that blows up a building. Things get significantly less interesting through the end of episode one and most of episode two, because there's just not any room for that. Episode three and four are much better about it, but even those peter out at the end. (Derelict is probably my least favorite Duke level, of the PC maps.)

I always thought Duke Nukem was really loved, until Forever finally came out. I mean, the reason Forever became so legendary was because people REALLY wanted it. I remember it as a pretty respectable franchise even though I never played it myself. And then when Forever came out the series lost all its cred. Like none of the games before it ever happened.

Winter + night? Tenchu! Especially mission 5 in the first Tenchu game. I love the calm music and falling snowflakes.

Ha! Now there's a recommendation. I remember being so pissed at the 2600 version when I finally figured out there was no finish line.

I wish that Climax was given the chance to make something on the open-world scale of Downpour, but with a larger budget than 0rigins and Shattered Memories. It would be the best post-Team Silent SH game, I tell you! *shakes fist in Konami's general direction*
