Everybody has seen features upon features of the worst box arts of all time, but I wonder, which are the best?
I have always loved the NES/SNES Konami boxarts, how about you guys? Post examples.

I love artsy minimalist boxes. The Grand Theft Auto series post-3 are eyecatching and interesting (and thank god Rockstar's artists got better at drawing people with Vice City onward), and then there's stuff like the Japanese ICO box. But right now, my personal favorite is the box of Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders: The entire box is designed to look like the in-game Tome of Power items, complete with fake spine bindings on the sides.

First thing that came to mind: And even though the artist himself called the structure of the piece a "mess", I used to have this one as a poster on my walls: As far as minimalist covers go, I though a version of Real Bout Fatal Fury had a black cover with just the star logo and the game title, but I can't find that one.

I've always been partial to Greg Martin's (RIP) work, personally. It's pretty hard not to think of him and the 16-bit era of art design together, honestly.

Just kidding. Although you have to admit, it does catch the eye... One of the best box arts of the SNES era, of course. Also love Marle casting a fire element spell.

The Descent series was *chuckle* DECENT when it came to boxart. Get it?... I'll show myself the door now... Sleek and stylish - gives off the feeling that you're playing a truly sophisticated "Doom killer." I'm not a fan of Descent 3's, though, which feels too early Photoshop in nature.

Descent 1 definitely takes the cake over number 2 though. There's something about the glossy enemy silhouettes on the otherwise plain box.
I still have my copy of that box; I was debating including it on my list, but it got edged out.

The entire box is designed to look like the in-game Tome of Power items, complete with fake spine bindings on the sides. PC game boxes from the 90's and early 00's are just the coolest. And even though the artist himself called the structure of the piece a "mess", I used to have this one as a poster on my walls: I like how they have the logo covering both Cammy and R Mika's butts. Anyway I've always been fond of KOTOR's cover because of how it mimics the Drew Struzan style. I also remember this cover really catching my eye when it was on the shelves because of that badonkadonk.

Much of that old-Hollywood style handrawn art (think the old James Bond posters) is so much better that the 3-D clip art often seen today. The art-deco look such as that which Descent sports os also very appealing much of the time. Minimalism in that sense can be very artistic when approached from the right vantage.
