It's always sad to see great architecture destroyed, and it must be especially sad for all the people to whom this church meant a lot personally. There are certainly many positive things one can associate with it (like one's own faith or cultural significance).
But at the same time let's not forget what this building also stands for, namely an organization that to this day remains highly opressive and criminal. And not to sound too cynical, but I found the picture of the burning Notre Dame church weirdly emblematic of the political situation in France. The way this is handled by the mass media is a also good example for how selective they can be: Compare the coverage this gets to the coverage of the yellow vest movement, which (or at least the situation that caused it) probably is of much more importance to the average people living in France. The obvious difference here being that one of those things is a symbol for power, the other for the "powerless". Or compare it to tragedies far greater than this incident, where complete cities like Bagdhad get *willfully* bombed to ashes, buildings and people alike. So reading some of the recent headlines and comments by politicians (including Macron) leaves the bitter taste of crocodile tears in my mouth.

Do we want an actual forum here or a safe space echo chamber where only one type of "correct" opinion is allowed?

It regards something that happened between him and the mods in the DMs. Not sure if it's my place to talk about it, though, but it wasn't the nazi thing.

Well ok then, fair enough, I can only go by what I see on the forums, not any behind the scenes stuff.

Definitely interested to know what went down as he didn't someone like someone prone to heated arguments.

Well, partially it was the Nazi thing; I'd closed his thread on the grounds that he seemingly wasn't here to actually discuss, but to constantly second-guess everybody - the hallmarks of somebody whose goal isn't to convince, but to un-convince. And rather than take the lock lying down, he group PM'ed myself, Kurt, and one of the users involved in said discussion originally and spent seven or so paragraphs shit-talking everybody. Basically, he doubled down on it and only cemented his jerkitude.

Not only that, but FWIW it got pointed out to me that he also posted about this whole thing on his blog, AND on reddit, in both cases singling me out, and providing screenshots of the forum. Not that I'm particularly offended, but it does seem a bit weird to go after someone's post on FOUR different occasions/places.
Ugh, but I digress. How about that weather, huh?

He used to start threads here to complain about what some random person on another forum had said to him and how obviously wrong they were, too. Guy's got issues. Ace Whatever Really? He started arguments all the time. As soon as he had a disagreement over something he'd type out some interminable post filled with nonsense and irrelevant details, then if you actually addressed a specific point he'd completely ignore your point or pretend to misunderstand so as to try and remain in control of the "debate". Then he'd PM you to keep it going. Just the most pointless arguments. He's probably gonna start a thread somewhere just to whine and rant about this very post. It'll be about ten times longer, and he'll completely misrepresent the situation to make himself look like the victim. That's what he does.

I certainly got a direct message from the guy once. He didn't seem particularly engaged in anything I had to respond back to him with.
