You mean when you're on one of those pipes? I'm pretty certain that's intended. No, not that, I think. It happens most often in the second track (Silence, was it?), where there are no curves at all and you can reach quite high a top speed. In that track, the vehicle sometimes just unpredictably gets snatched off the road a bit before the goal line if you go too fast. The X cup also sometimes produces tracks with such abrupt changes in slope that most AI drivers and a careless player get lifted from the road.

I think the reason F-Zero has yet to come back is for the most part Nintendo only makes a game when they feel like they have something truly new to add and the Gamecube entry arguably takes it as far as you can go, what more could you really have done on the Wii and Wii U?
In fact, that's one thing I like about Nintendo is that they're not ones to just crank it out, for example they very, very easily could have made a Super Mario 64 2 and it would have sold like hot cakes, but because SM64 brought Mario as far as it could go on the N64 they decided to wait for Gamecube.
With the NX though it's possible that enough time has passed that they could bring back F-Zero, it all just depends on what the NX is like.

Well actually, they were planning to do a SM64-2. I believe for the 64DD. And in fact they did make NSMB2 and NSMBU which didn't really add too much on NSMB and NSMBWii respectively. Those are still worthwile games thankfully.
And I can think of a big thing they could've added to a Wii, and especially a Wii U entry. Online. But maybe that wouldn't really work with the 30 racers/fast speed combo of the series. Certainly 12 players would work. Although I do think they once said this was kinda the reason for no new F-Zero being made recently. It's not really the kind of franchise you can add some random gimmicks to, like with Mario Kart.

I mean, look how much random gimmicks, control- and gameplaywhise, have been added to the Wipeout series over the years. They could have done the same with F-Zero, if they wanted to,plus it could be improved in the visual department a lot, and this is the thing games like this depend a lot on... I'm not saying a Wii or WiiU F-Zero with motion- or touchscreen control gimmicks would be a good thing- but it could be done.

It's not an ironclad rule Nintendo has, it's just what they lean towards, they tend to not just crank sequels out and only do it if they feel like they have something new to add.
And yeah, I sometimes think that attitude can be detrimental, what was that one Star Fox game for the Gamecube? Star Fox Assault I think, where instead of just being a Gamecube version of Star Fox 64, which would have been fine, they added really bad "on foot" combat.

Well, both GCN Starfox games (Adventures and Assault) were really different from SF64. Adventures started off as a non-SF game, which really shows in the final product. Kinda weird how they didn't take a more straight-forward approach with Assault, then. (And then Command was very different too, but at least that has no on-foot stuff) But yeah, it doesn't always work out for the best. Sticker Star removing EXPs, for example. There was no real reason to change the Paper Mario formula up so much after only 2 games (Super Paper Mario also differed a lot). elektrolurchI don't know, for me F-Zero has always been a very pure racing experience. No real stage gimmicks (some ice and mines and stuff), but mostly challenge in all the twists and turns, and no real combat besides slamming into other racers, no items besides the boost, etc. All it came down to is your skill in handling the machine.

How does Captain Falcon stay so buff after driving all day, anyway? I guess it takes quite some build sit straight in face of all the fugality (or whatever that is called, kinetic energy and stuff) the speed those cars go induce.

How does Captain Falcon stay so buff after driving all day, anyway? Well, you gotta be pretty fit for formula 1, right? I can only imagine the same goes for F-0. Then again, there's also some fatasses in F-Zero, so maybe not. In any case, he's a bounty hunter.

I love the original F-Zero. Certainly one of my top 20 games of all time. Love X too, especially the soundtrack. Too bad for GX they changed the direction of the music. The rock soundtrack makes it much more intense, fits much better, and is less generic future-y. Dito. But it's not only the soundtrack alone but the complete shift in atmosphere. The characterdesigns, the music, and the color choices... absolutely everything screams late 80s. GX on the other hand looked like most other scifi games or anime. X is one of the few games where I almost fall into a trance while playing, which isn't that good, as I more than often forget to keep an eye on the energy gauge. It's also too satisfying to knock out over a half of your opponents during a race. BTW what are your Death Race times, guys?

BTW what are your Death Race times, guys? Last time I attempted it, I think I managed around 4 minutes? Those last few guys are hard to find on the track amid all the debris.
