What the fuck is going on with this game? Final Doom is the same. Glitchy weird graphics where you can see thru ceilings and walls. I've tried multiple emulators and bins. Shit just doesn't want to function. Should be the simplest game to emulate, goddamn.

What the fuck is going on with this game? Final Doom is the same. Glitchy weird graphics where you can see thru ceilings and walls. I've tried multiple emulators and bins. Shit just doesn't want to function. Should be the simplest game to emulate, goddamn. Yea...as the original remade release showed on PS1 (Ultimate Doom), the PS1 can handle the game quite handily and with added lighting and ambience too! The Final Doom game for the PS1 was just a coded mess of a game, unfortunately. Not to make excuses for the programmers, but it really felt like the game was just 'mailed in' at a time when the overall popularity of Doom itself started to wane in favor of more advanced FPS, even on the Playstation that used actual polygons...and over on PC, it faced stiff competition from the likes of Quake and its sequels, as well as the original Half Life and Unreal. Programmers and/or publishers probably figured, 'what the hey, it's Doom, it has Master Levels, just make an ok product, put it on the shelves, and people will buy it"....Thus we ended up with the PS1 disc we did. Anyways, if I may offer a suggestion/alternative if you want MORE Doom and all the emulated versions (PS1, 3D0, Jaguar, Saturn, 32X, etc, etc) disappoint you. It's a Windows based game engine called Zdoom....and it is capable of running the original Doom games just like they were intended...or if you are feeling really adventurous, it can also add some features, if you like, that were never intended for Doom games, such as jumping, crouching, higher resolutions that the standard 240-480p, and not to mention a plethora (and I mean a fucking GLUT) of fan made levels that you can add to it if you so desire. Weapons mods (on top of the arsenal the Doom guy already has access to) and also mods that ADD variations of the original Doom monsters (Imps that spew green Baron fireballs for instance, or faster Pinky Demons that spit poisonous blood), as well as former humans that have access to and use any of the weapons YOU do to deal with....yes, that means former humans toting around rocket launchers, plasma rifles, and even the fabled BFG! Not trying to sway you away from wanting a better version via emulation of the Playstation's original Final Doom disc, but I think no one will really bother even attempting to 'fix' that version when things like Zdoom (or if you have a beefy graphics capable PC, GZdoom) exist and allow players to play endless amounts of new content that way in addition to the original Doom games. Not that my post helped with your dilemma, but I hope I at least showed you that there is hope for more Doom games...albeit a different avenue than you are currently looking for. Cheers, FM07

What you want to do with Playstation Doom is get yourself an emulator that renders in software mode. If you're using ePSXe, great, because you can use the P.E.Op.S Software renderer, which strives for maximum accuracy (albeit with a somewhat higher CPU requirement). I'm told Mednafen works as well, though that requires more setup.
The reason why it's kind of broken is that the devs are not using the usual Playstation-native rendering systems. They're using an adaptation of the original PC software renderer. Emulators that try to "enhance" the graphics tend to make assumptions about how the rendering works, which might be okay for something like Crash Bandicoot where it all follows "the rules" that 90% of Playstation games followed when writing their renderers, but in Doom's case, things work so differently that the graphics engine of your emulator just doesn't know how floor flood-filling works and elects to just not draw anything. Choosing a software renderer like P.E.Op.S Software, however, ensures that the rendering is being done on a per-pixel basis, with no assumptions, drawing the screen exactly as a Playstation would. In that fashion, you'll get Doom the way Williams Electronics intended.

Don't bother with plugin ridden crap emulators like ePSXe. Just get Bizhawk which plays all PSX games accurately in 'software' mode.

I guess I should've been more specific. I'm using android based emulators like epsxe, fpsxe, and retroarch. I have D-GLES which is pretty sweet but it has the original butt rock soundtrack. The reason I like the ps1 version is for that creepy ass music.
I've tried using D-GLES and swapping out the mp3s. It worked but it fails to loop. It will play the music one go round then go quiet. Is there another version of Doom with that ambient noise from the ps1/n64 versions?

Yeah, Mednafen is pretty much your best option for dealing with PS1 games nowadays, and Doom should work fine with that. Don't think it's on Android, though. If all else fails, you could try this ZDoom mod.

Mednafen itself isn't directly on android, but there is a Retroarch core of it. As for Zdoom, that's available through Beloko Games' D-Touch, which I've been told isn't bad, but does cost money.
