If not more So... does the Jaguar even have anything worth emulating that you can't get from another mistress?

So... does the Jaguar even have anything worth emulating that you can't get from another mistress? Alien VS Predator is really the biggest thing you'd be missing. Also, supposedly, Tempest 2000 has some certain quirks that aren't copied 100% in the PC, PS1, and Saturn versions, so if that really matters to you, that could be important. Then again, people like me enjoy playing the weird, obscure crap like Ultra Vortek, so it'd be nice to have some way to play them.

How the hell would you even emulate a Jaguar controller? Doesn't it have something like 20 buttons? Unless you have a freak keyboard, you have 26 from the alphabet alone. Is the Jaguar AvP different enough from/better than the PC version(though I don't know how well that runs nowadays)?

The fact that the Jaguar controller resembled a keyboard is precisely why it sucked. I can't imagine it being much fun to emulate a game with just a keyboard and not a controller.

Maybe you could do research to see if there's a way to connect an actual Jaguar controller to your computer via USB? That wouldn't fix the apparently poor emulation quality of the emulators currently available though.

That would definitely address the issue head-on. Jaguar is far from the best system around, but it definitely shouldn't be lost to obscurity.

ARGH! I've been wanting to play Ecco Defender of The Future on either PS2, or Dreamcast, and neither version of the game loads. Null DC never gets to loading the game, PSX2 emulator gets to the loading bar, and hangs. Someone made a fix via the console in the background, but I cannot find where to edit the info, nor does it even show what it exactly the coding is needing me to do. I'm about to give up on this unless someone knows of a better copy or settings I'm missing on this game. I know it's by no means a perfect game, but I want to play it so much.

Try Demul for Dreamcast? Sometimes the format you use could be better, too. For Dreamcast, try to find .gdi(also comes with .bin and .raw files, so best left in a folder), instead of .cdi

Regen Debug (MD/GEN) is cool since you can overclock games; no more slowdown in Wily Wars, Arcus Odyssey, Sol Deace, Grind Stormer or Viewpoint, and decent framerate in Star Cruiser or Hard Drivin'. There are occasional side effects though, like the controls becoming less responsive in Road Rash or the game running faster in Zero Tolerance or Hard Drivin', or choppy music in Star Cruiser or Panorama Cotton. These effects seem to differ from real hardware at times.
Two games seem to actually have some built in slowdown: Thunder Force IV against some bosses' bullet patterns, and RKA when you hit >1 HP enemies and when bosses explode.

So... Mednafen is supposed to be good, right? I'm trying to play a Turbo CD game with it though (alternatively by dragging the ISO file onto the EXE, or the cue file onto the EXE), and either way, Mednafen won't even start when I try to use it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

What folder do I even look in to know if I do or don't have those files? Some of the folders in my Mednafen folder have no data in them, but I don't know what "mcm" or "mcs" or whatnot are supposed to stand for. EDIT: Okay, I think I figured out the BIOS thing. I have the BIOS in my firmware folder... but when I drag the game onto the EXE file, it still doesn't run, even with the BIOS present in the firmware folder? EDIT2: I finally got things working. I decided to use a frontend, and now games can be run on it. woo

Arcade: I like Shmupmame, which reduces lag for many games. It hasn't been updated since 2013, I think, so you should also keep another MAME fork nearby in case a game isn't supported. If you want to play arcade games online with a friend, there's FightCade, based on FinalBurn Alpha. Sadly I haven't had the chance to try it yet. I have used FightCade, it's pretty good but lacks selection. It lives up to its name, plays fighting games online well, and not much else. There are some Neo Geo multi games on there, think I played Turf Masters online with it. For MAME I prefer and have always used Mame Plus! Has great UI, runs just about everything ever including Capcom CPS3 games, lots of options and filters, and built in Kaillera for online. Like any MAME, though, it's a project setting it up. = = = = = = Mednafen tho? Never heard of it, is it really that good? Somebody here recommended Xebra as a PS1 emulator and I never looked back! That thing is stupid easy to use, set up, and run.

I don't know what people see in Xebra at all, to be honest. It's pretty accurate, sure, but the menus are a complete mess to navigate, and it's generally just a huge pain to use all around. Mednafen has pretty much the best compatability of any PS1 emulator, it runs Saturn games incredibly well, and if you're a Retroarch fan, it works great with that.

Hmm, where's the PC-98 in that list? I can name at least 3 emulators for that system - Anex86, T98-Next and Neko Project II. The winner is easily NPII for its sound, better fullscreen display and for actually being maintained. All of them take a little setup to work properly, such as having a font file, and in the case of NPII, switching an option in the virtual setup menu (which obvs is in japanese). The best guide I had for it was part of a package involving hard translation patches for the Touhou .hdi's and I don't exactly have it in hand anymore. Magic Engine was an emulator I used to discover my first few ever TurboGrafx-16 games a very long time ago (around 1999-2000). It is still around, is it any good? Not at that price. At least it also comes with a PC-FX emulator - is there any other such emulator? Speaking of that system, MAME can kinda sorta run a select few TG16 games thanks to an obscure arcade conversion. Quoth Progetto Emma: "In 1989, United Amusement (a large operator of arcades in the US at that time) developed a JAMMA interface for the PC-Engine with NEC's blessing. NEC pulled funding for the project before mass production began, and it never took off." Only 4 games were released for it: Alien Crush, Blazing Lazers, Keith Courage In Alpha Zones, and Pac-Land (portception occurs when you consider this went Arcade -> TG16 -> Arcade). It comes with timed credits by default, but you can use the DIP switches in the Tab menu to disable them.
