Wow, I had no idea others would have such a hard time figuring out Lunar Lander. Sure, it's a Japan-exclusive and that cosmonaut-sprite appears only in this version, I think. But it's still a port of a known (?) classic for the most famous handheld console ever. And yet it turned out 50% less recognizable than Popo Team (numbers don't lie). excelsior I doubt I'll be able to do it again, at some point post-2010 Unreal-engine-based games will reappear. And not to sound xenophobic, but those look all the same to me. I got lucky finding a video featuring Elite's character creator. Never having played it, I had no idea that "wireframe space sim" even featured pixel art. And now I can freely talk about how pretty Tryrush Deppy looks. Not a DOS Point and Click Adventure like I'd initially thought, it's comforting that are other cartoon car-based platformers besides Banishing Racer (a "windfisch-game", if you will). Heck, it's even mentioned in this HG101 article, so that's probably where I remember it from. Last and least, Dangerous Streets in all its glory:

On behalf of all us quiz takers (excluding windy of course) I saw fit to adapt the Lunar Lander sprite as I think is appropriate given the circumstances:

Oh look, he's waving his tiny hand! Adorable.
edit: No wait, he's giving us the tumbs up. Right on!

I should probably actually submit answers to these at some point instead of keeping them to myself.
Jeremy Parish did a video on Lunar Lander almost exactly 4 years ago to the day (Aug. 1 '17)! If it hadn't been so long ago, maybe more people would have gotten it?

dsparil - Probably a mistake to encourage somebody who'd probably outdo me but I think it'd be interesting to see how well you fared. Besides which the more the merrier as far as taking part in my book.

Mr_Horizon - Thanks for the quiz, excellent month this time around. Just a quick question - you have me as 5th in the leader board but not in the award ceremony. Not sure which position I'm supposed to be in. I had to look closer here: this time you, the_Bach (Spazio PC) and Marek (from ResetEra) have exactly the same correct answers. I checked the timestamps and you & Marek even submitted on the same day! However, he did it six hours before you, that means he gets the 5th position and you are 6th. The_Bach is 7th because he joined on the last day of the month.

Elite was a surprise. I did actually play it, on C64 and PC, but those character graphics only seem to be in the Amiga/ST ports. Very interesting.

I should probably actually submit answers to these at some point instead of keeping them to myself. I'd be curious to know your (inofficial) score regardless. You did know Lunar Lander, so that's already promising.

Loathe as I am to take defeat from a Reseterian accept it I must. It'll perhaps teach me not to wait for the final set of clues to put my answers in for future quizzes. I did expect a few others to get the exact same answers as me - I think the clues were pretty generous for the first 20 and those two were the biggest unknown's for sure.

I wouldn't get too excited about my unofficial score for this one. Lunar Lander I only got because I was looking through Parish's videos for GB racing games, and Lunar Lander just happened to be before one so I was reminded of its existence. I put myself at 8 for this one if the exact game is required or 11 if the series was okay (Mega Man, Turrican, Metal Slug). That's just off the top of my head though without hints. I'm a little surprised barely over half the people got Smash TV even with hints.

The series is enough for the point in these quizzes (unless Mr H specifies otherwise), so 11 it is.

I was surprised I knew as many as I did. I would have got Smash TV, but I submitted my entry before the clue - I completed the SNES version back in the day. I was convinced Cruise for a Corpse was indie game This Is The Police, no idea why. Arabian Nights convinced it was Magical Hat the game that was reskinned as Decap Attack.

August Quiz - Riddles & PuzzlesThe players have decided, the next round is all about puzzles! Not quite what I expected (my "time travel" material collection was already done...) and not really my genre either, but let's have a look. So this time it's about puzzle games and puzzles in games... lots of expected classics are included, but I've tried for a few surprises too! Deadline is Tuesday 31st of August, enter via www.retrogamequiz.com/Here comes the quiz, enjoy: Direct link: i.imgur.com/2lEN0AH.png

I got slightly more than half without research, I'm satisfied (and then those damn hints will pull me back in). Number 6 is probably a notorious one for a certain subpopulation of the gaming community . And I'm somewhat amazed and concerned at the same time that I recognized number 20 right away.

The puzzle that has me most stuck this month is how the well groomed gentleman in no.3 is able to get his clothes on with a head that size. I'll take a proper look in the morning (I was randomly woken up by Netflix which just decided to play a movie loudly of it's own accord). I can say now I recognise a couple as being games from my backlog - 8 and 9 for sure. 25 Has to be the easiest bottom row answer to date, right?
