I recently discovered these two movies (or documentaries?) thanks to an episode of Gilmore Girls no less.
What I love about them is the amazing music that would fit perfectly in a video game. Apparently these movies and music are somewhat known, but I didn't even know they existed.
Anyway, listen to the first tracks at the very least. The first one is really solemn, mysterious, evoking of something I can't explain.
And this one is the sequel to the previous movie, listen to that amazing first track. I swear it's something out of Suikoden 1.
There's actually a 3rd movie, but I haven't seen it yet.

Tango & Cash always sounded like a video game to me. This track even has a boss battle track near the end!

Philip Glass was a major influence on the European game music scene of the 80s. There are some outright covers as well, like Rob Hubbard's Delta theme which is based on the Koyaanisqatsi score.

Always thought this one sounded like an Ice/Winter stage.

Always thought this one sounded like an Ice/Winter stage. I LOOOOOOOVE me some YUNG BAE. I found the name initially off-putting, but boy, I'm glad I checked out his stuff. It's all sampled to hell, but I love it anyways!

I've been accused of liking Symphony X because it sounds like videogame music.

I found a promo cd of Bond yesterday and this song sounded very fitting for a JRPG. Particularly a Falcom game or something.

I should get their albums, love this sound of this.

I love the fusion stuff too. This one by Vanessa Mae is amazing too - used to get me all emotional as a youngster... the Violin/Guitar duel is awesome!!! Her whole album 'The Violin Player' is brilliant... one of my absolute favourites.

You know what all of these have in common? A nice recognizable, whistable, humable melody. That's what is missing from music these days.
Spanish song, but has a pretty cool melody (ignore the silly video)

Spanish song, but has a pretty cool melody (ignore the silly video) You say silly, I say AWESOME And you hit the nail on the head... where has all the melody gone from music these days? It's like composers and musicians are scared of a catchy tune. When done well, there's nothing better!!!
