*snarky suggestion that about a dozen people should be posting here but aren't*

Okay? Where are you getting these warnings?

I managed to find a .com TLD typosquatter for the main site once and it happened to host one of those rogue antimalware programs. Thankfully I realized immediately what it was and disconnected from the Internet quickly.
Just saying, since someone here might care to try to do something about it. Though I don't know if much can be done. And no, I'm not linking it. It's a malware host.
My Goddess I hate these typosquatter sites. If you don't remember EXACTLY what a site's URL is, you NEED to search it on a search engine (which is what I should've done, but forgot)!

I haven't seen any warning on this forum before. On another forum I post at, however, there was some issue a week or two ago there where going there redirected you to a fake browser update page, which was surprising to see. Thankfully I trusted my instincts and didn't download it.

Okay? Where are you getting these warnings? It was actually through a gaming platform that I had running in the background. Of course, the usual protocol applied: collect all debugging data, kill process. I was about a bottle-and-a-half in at the point of posting that - this really isn't the place to be posting about that kind of thing.

If you don't remember EXACTLY what a site's URL is, you NEED to search it on a search engine (which is what I should've done, but forgot)! It's absolutely critical to keep an antimalware kit on your system at all times. if a game requires that you "disable your firewall", i forget about it. An unprotected machine that is connected to the internet will be infected, even without actually connecting to anything. It's a nebulous practice at best, and something that most people really don't think about. myself personally, I keep about 20% of my system resources devoted to antimalware at all times. typosquatters are horrible garbage. there are so many of those where i'm at, it's insane. i personally do all of my navigating through search engines, so running into those is more of a "report and reverse" as opposed to a "disconnect and avoid". really, it's important to prepare your system for that kind of thing, because a computer is dumb and will only do what it is instructed to do.

On another forum I post at, however, there was some issue a week or two ago there where going there redirected you to a fake browser update page, which was surprising to see. Thankfully I trusted my instincts and didn't download it. This particular forum doesn't really have enough money-traffic to make it a worthwhile target for most attackers. I was on the GOG forums yesterday, and apparently they have suffered a brutal assault from a nasty linux exploit that was made public a few months ago; concerning some unregistered attack that resulted in privilege escalation for unauthorized users... or something of that nature. The site downloads will probably still work for most folk, but my security protocol is set up to disallow a lot of scripts for whatever reason. Anyway, after about 6 hours of trying to get a decent download from the site, I had to give up. Because: A, really exhausted. and B, not really my job to handle that sort of thing. This particular attack was not related to this site, in fact it was probably a robot on the Google engine that was the culprit. Very minor at any rate, I think they were just looking to collect some personal data anonymously. As to what you said: Phishing attacks are no joke, they can sneak into valid links, which is again why you should have an antimalware kit on your computer system.

Well, without a lot of context from your original post, I'd thought perhaps you were talking about ad banners on the forums or website itself giving your malware detector a fit, and had planned on forwarding your info to Discoalucard to look into. Though he's certainly had his fair share of headaches with the ad server...

At the minimum, keep Windows Defender on if you are on Windows. I mean, it is free and works well enough unless you visit shady places intentionally.
