Hey, all. I recently played through FEZ for the first time and I was blown away in part by the beautiful, delicate spritework and general air of serenity in much of the game. The natural environments are lush and the ruined architecture added a curious air of calm mystique. I was reminded of Laputa: Castle in the Sky. I've been pretty stressed out lately with a lot of deadlines and things going on but FEZ really helped me chill out and I really lost myself in the game. So now I'm looking for more. I love games that include nature reclaiming architecture, which you also see a bit in stuff like Etrian Odyssey.
What other games have calm, serene, lush environments and/or tones? I suppose I'm mainly looking for platformers, RPGs, and games otherwise involved in exploration since I think those are most conducive for engaging with environments but I'm up for trying pretty much any game that captures the vibe I'm looking for.

Well, one recent game that definitely fits the bill is Owlboy. If you want nature reclaiming architecture in tremendous, glorious detail, look no further than that!

I'd say guacamele and journey fit the bill. Guacamele has lush colours and great South American music but it is also fairly quiet and serene at times too. Journey is just a quiet peaceful adventure, very relaxing to play.

Sailing in Wind Waker could feel pretty serene sometimes.

Weirdly enough, Just Cause 2 and 3 are like this for me. Switch off the music, parasail over mountains and valleys, stand on top of a jumbo-jet mid-flight and admire the island.

Ooh, Loom is a good choice! That game doesn't get nearly enough love. I guess Shadow of the Colossus and Ico bear mentioning. And probably The Last Guardian. Ori and the Blind Forest, too. -Tom

Hyper Light Drifter has a lot of enviroments that all have that "nature reclaiming back architecture". Even its colors feel close to FEZ sometimes.
Outcast, though not really fun to play, has a lot of wide yet lush landscapes to explore.
Oh, and another 3D game that comes to mind is Giants Citizen Kabuto.
And.........uhm........what about No Man's Sky?

As much as I despise it for the bad gameplay, Shadow of the Beast has some very soothing combinations of scenery and background music. I especially recommend the track "Inside the Tree". From an art standpoint the game was impressive for the times, but it still holds somewhat today.

The first Simon The Sorcerer game has always had a very relaxing effect on me, mainly thanks to the peaceful forest environments that make most of the game's locations and to the soundtrack. On the free/indie side let's not forget Knytt and its sequels:
