I love world maps. In fact, I just love looking at any video game maps. My no. 1 favorite, which is mostly due to nostalgia to be honest, is from the original Rayman: I also love the pre-rendered boards from the N64 Mario Parties. Kirby's Adventure has great world maps too:

Persona 3 had some slick menu design. Love seeing this screen in Heroes 3. The maps are pretty fab too of course.

Ah, I was beaten to the mention of DKC 2 & 3. I really love 3 especially, they just look real cozy and tranquil. Otherwise, well. I atleast get a chuckle out of Lord Elron here briefing you in UN Squadron.

I like the branching map screens that certain games had, such as Castlevania III. Too bad this seems to be more of an old-school trope.
I also like the Lillium Orb and Sphere Grid screens.

Another vote for Super Mario World. I love the vista at the beginning of the game that lets you see the entire world, as well as the fact the map evolves as you make your way through it.

Racing games by Codemasters always had stylish and elaborate menu and level select screens as some kind of tradition, but Dirt 2 is probably my favorite. It's basically one interactive location, where everything is tied to various items (journals, desks, etc), and you pick your options by interacting with said items. It's by far not the first game to do that kind of thing (I remember similar menus from old DOS games like Wing Commander), but it's probably the most atmospheric and immersive one in that regard. Also, Persona 3 (mentioned above). It's just a very neat level select screen, and during first playthrough, it was very interesting to see pieces of this tower being unlocked one by one c:

Yup, that one's good thanks. I personally have a hard time choosing any favourites, so I'm just going to toss up the map for Commander Keen Episode 6: Aliens Ate my Babysitter: Originally from Commander-Keen.com; I just uploaded it to my site to save on hotlinking... if they care or not.

Dirt 2's was definitely the most interesting out of the 4 last gen Dirt titles released.

I always really liked the city map that showed up between levels in Double Dragon 2 on the gameboy, as I hadn't really come across anything like that before and I liked how it gave me an idea of Billy's progress through the city.
Final Fight is basically the same with the map that shows up between stages, but it just flashes the sector you're in, whereas the D2 map actually had a little billy sprite walk between each location before the stage.
