So I just talked to my mom about the family reunion she and my dad went to today (I didn't go cause I hate them as there not much to do,) and she said there weren't many there. Only about 20 people showed up. With this in mind I come to this question which is are family reunions becoming a thing of the past? It might just be a thing with my family but I like to know what it is the families of those here. Maybe the younger generations are losing interest in a tradition or maybe social media is to blame. With today's technology having to travel great distances to talk to family is less necessary then ever before.

Yeah, I went to a family reunion and in 2014 and not a whole lot of people showed up, most of who did were people I had never met before in my life (and many were disturbingly too "redneck" for my liking)

I didn't know that family reunions were really a thing.

Are family reunions more of a central plains/east coast thing? I've never heard of anyone I know here in southern California doing a family reunion. Maybe because the areas I'm around are mostly transplants, 2nd or 3rd generation migrant families, or of family cultures where they see each other every other day anyways.

Maybe southern east coast. You never see them in New England.

Our family reunions would be when someone passed away. Not many left in mine. Just dad, an aunt, and a few cousins who don't keep in touch.

My midwestern family has them every year, but I think with Facebook now they've become a little redundant for most people. I think maybe 40 years ago when people were geographically closer in proximity they made more sense, but it's hard for me to be too invested in what my mom's cousin's kids are doing, even if we're technically related.

We used to have huge family reunions. I don't go to them anymore but I think they still happen.

Been something rather alien to me. But we may be an odd case since my immediate family is separated from both of my mom and dads side. Honestly I'm perfectly fine with that. Not much of a people person family or no.

My dad's side of the family used to have huge family gatherings each year for Thanksgiving, but it hasn't happened for the last several years. I kind of miss those gatherings; the last one I went to was the Thanksgiving before I came out and started transitioning, so I was kind of hoping to be able to spend time at one of those gatherings while not being closeted. oh well D: EDIT: Been something rather alien to me. But we may be an odd case since my immediate family is separated from both of my mom and dads side. Honestly I'm perfectly fine with that. Not much of a people person family or no. Personman's power is his apathy. Espeacially for societal norms, the consequences of his actions(or in action) and logic Pretty much worst superhero ever.

I liked them when I was a kid, so I could play and socialize with my cousins and such. But family reunions where 99% are adults often suuuucks because you have a lot of fully formed adults with very different personalities trying to get along, and it's almost always awkward. Honestly I think they're really only good for the kids.
