I couldn't hum it to you, but I recognize the Harry Potter theme. Last big-name movie franchise with a recognizable theme IMO.

My least favorite unimportant thing has to be when they tell a joke in a movie, tv show or commercial and you hear that "record stop" sound. It's literally the corniest thing in the world, and always seems to be there to clarify that something is meant to be funny when it isn't really, like laugh tracks.

This is going to get me crucified, but I think the main Batman theme in the Dark Knight is much, much more appropriate than Danny Elfman's music.

Nobody called them hipsters in the 00's though. They did, I remember the term hipster being used to describe the movie Juno, which was 2007, by 2009 the word hipster was EVERYWHERE and that's still technically the 00s. I couldn't hum it to you, but I recognize the Harry Potter theme. Last big-name movie franchise with a recognizable theme IMO. That's what I said, that the Harry Potter theme is the last great instantly recognizable movie theme. This is going to get me crucified, but I think the main Batman theme in the Dark Knight is much, much more appropriate than Danny Elfman's music. Except I can't remember what the Dark Knight's theme is at all. Though I would say the best Batman score is not Elfman's but the one for Mask of The Phantasm.

Philistines, one and all.
This hits all the right notes, if you'll pardon the pun. You get a sense of tension, building menace, mystery...it's basically the entire idea of Batman in its purest form. Danny Elfman's score is absolutely classic and I don't want to take anything away from it, but it's too kooky for a "serious" take on the character.

It's good, but it also typifies modern movie music in that it's more of an ambient piece, gone are the days of catchy theme "hooks" that become instantly recognizable like say the Back To The Future theme.
But that kind of bombastic music just fell out of favor once we reached the 20th century and it's never gone back since, ambience is what it's all about today, which is often very good in it's own right, but I don't know why it's such an either/or situation.
By the way, here's a great movie theme from a shitty movie that if it was for a better movie would be considering a classic, it's probably the best "pirate" music ever and way better than Zimmerman's pirates of The Carribean theme.
For another perfect example of how far things have fallen here's the theme for the 1971 Italian "mondo" exploitation movie about slavery called Goodbye Uncle Tom that I watched a few months back and has been stuck in my head since, that's pretty sad when a sleazy exploitation movie about slavery has a catchier theme song than anything I've heard from the last 15 years.
There's also this surprisingly beautiful vocal track from the same movie.
Again, when a sleazy Italian exploitation flick from the 70s has more memorable music than most mainstream movies today, that says something.

I would love to see a movie about the rise and fall of Carolco. Yup, it would be interesting, it's so weird how they had a massive hit with Terminator 2, then a few years later went bust.

I've seen Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, but not The Dark Knight. I didn't really care for either though (I'm not a Batman/superhero fan in general). Jason, that theme sounds okay (with the part after the 5 minute mark sounding cool). It doesn't seem particularly memorable to me though. Really, it just kinda sounds like most any modern movie soundtrack to me. Sorry

I think that GamerL already mentioned the BWAHHH horns that are in like every movie trailer nowadays. If you did mention it already, then I second that. BWAHHHDidn't that trend start with the trailer for Inception? Seems like it's somewhat died down now and the new trend is "slow dramatic covers" of songs, which started with the trailer for The Social Network. I think it started with Inception. It's been like nine years since then. >.< I wonder what the next trend to rip off will be.

but it's too kooky for a "serious" take on the character. Honestly, I found the 'serious' tone of the DK trilogy very hard to take...ehm...serious. IDK, I probably shouldn't talk about the Dark Knight since I find that probably the most overrated movie I've ever watched. I mean, I enjoyed the trilogy to some degree, but for me the high point of them was the first half or so of Begins.

I would agree with Jason, that music is more "appropriate" for the film. It fits well with the scenes, and fits in with the ambient mood of some serious shit is going down. But the Tim Burton/Danny Elfman theme for Batman is so warm and catchy. And it carries over so well for Batman: The Animated Series of the 1990's.

The something dramatic happens so we have to play a Bweeerp sound after it and fade to black. US movies and shows are full of this and I never understood why.
Poverty Porn TV shows this might be a UK thing but in the past few years they is so many shows just filming real jobless people trying to find jobs and in none of them they are even trying to help them out. They all have clickbaity names like Benefits Street and 5 kids and on Benefits. Then there's all the filming company's taking people stuff away because they can't pay for it shows.
All the TV Shows sponsored and Adverts for Online Casinos and Bingo Sites. They all are advertised the same with some middle aged people all in cafes on Tablets and Phones playing them. You never see anyone in real life ever doing this and with Bingo all the real life Bingo centers are just used by old people which makes the online version more popular more confusing.
