Maybe I missed it, but I don't see FEDA. It was made by Climax Entertainment (under the name of Max Entertainment) , which co-developed the original Shining Force with Sonic Co./Sonic Software Planning/Camelot, and has very similar gameplay and visuals, though the tone is somewhat darker. Max is also the name of Shining Force's hero, as well as being a shortened version of "Climax".

I'm not too familiar with Shining Force, but I will guess that FEDA was unique in that reportedly to get the best ending you had to (maybe among other conditions?) avoid killing enemies as much as possible. Did SF have a kind of anti-grinding measure?

Did SF have a kind of anti-grinding measure? No and you can’t advance unless you clear the field of all baddies. Every battle is intertwined with the story, I think.

I'm pretty sure killing bosses will end battles in Shining Force even if there are enemies left. Likewise, FEDA is still mostly about killing enemies, so most of the time killing as few as possible would just mean going straight for the bosses. There might be a few battles where you have other types of objectives, I honestly don't remember, but I'm sure it wasn't most of them.

Battles with a boss do end at killing the boss, but many don't have one.

Wizards & Warriors (1987) > Legend of Makai An edge case, or perhaps reverse case, since this time it's the publisher that did the clone. Jaleco published W&W in Japan in 1988 shortly before they released this arcade ripoff of it: tcrf.net/Legend_of_MakaiNMK developed the game, and curiously, they're mentioned on the title screen of the Japanese release of W&W too.

The Goof Troop HG101 article just brought this reverse example (i.e., a clone gaining a license) to my attention:
Higemaru Makaijima > Goof Troop (SNES)

Kind of a stretch, but Horizon Chase is a modern Top Gear clone made by a new developer, BUT they managed to get the original composer, Barry Letich for the game.

Halloween Harry (AKA Alien Carnage) > Zombie Wars
Actually, this is an edge case, since Zombie Wars outright uses the characters from the original game. I'm assuming that Apogee had the rights to the name, though.
