-I enjoyed Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. I did too! It's a surprisingly not-terrible game, while some of the mini-games are lame, yes, the dialog is pretty funny and overall offers the experience of playing a college set sex comedy pretty well, which is novel. - I've never made it passed just 2-3 levels in any Doom game before losing interest - I found the Dreamcast to be overrated and am willing to sell mine to any interested party I did finally beat the original Doom after many failed starts, but I haven't beaten Doom 2. I just hate getting lost in those mazelike levels, it's really tedious. How much are you selling the Dreamcast for?

I dunno, I tend to agree that most Zelda games, at least when it comes to world building and presentation, are incredibly boring. And not just the one that clearly had no original thought, Twilight Princess. Except anything with toon Link of course, since the adorable dude actually is allowed to have some personality, instead of staring into the camera like he's lobotomized.

1. I respect Nintendo, especially now that they're the last Japanese video game giant, but I never liked them all that much. Mario games are usually good and highly playable, but I don't find the characters, universe of general vibe appealing. Same for Zelda! I like some of the games a lot, but I always feel like the most beloved ones are overrated (I haven't played Breath of the Wild, though, and would like to). Specifically, Ocarina of Time, which I stopped liking about halfway through when I'd explored the world fully, and A Link to the Past, which is impractical and could use more towns & story. When I heard Nintendo, I think dull gray consoles, that ugly red logo, that lames ass N64 which probably doesn't have 5 games I care about. I can't deny the SNES, though, because it had 90% of the RPGs when the genre was at its best, random encounters aside. I like Nintendo just fine but I wish they would take more chances beyond the established franchises like Mario and Zelda. More games like Eternal Darkness for example, it blows my mind to think Nintendo published a Mature rated Lovecraftian themed horror game and it's something the company desperately needs to do more of, while I'm not saying Nintendo needs to fight it's "for kids" image too much, nor does it need it's own version of Halo or whatever, it does need to expand it's horizons, try new things and give us more new franchises.

In my area, we had only Nintendo fans/players, if you like SEGA, then people only know Sonic and nothing else, besides I see tons of hate regarding Genesis in other websites. In my conclusion, I always got the mindset that the world thought that the Sega Genesis was weak and only had infamous marketing. I played some Genesis games and I liked it like the Super Famicom, but nobody would think like that in my area. I guess, saying "Sega Genesis had really good games" in hardcoregaming101 doesn't make sense. Are you outside the US? Something ridiculous like 80% of all Genesis systems were sold in the US. The 20 million unit gap between the Genesis and SNES is pretty much totally due to Sega's lack of non-US sales even in Japan. Edit: For some reason I remembered the Genesis's US sales at being 24m out of 30m which is totally wrong. 80% is probably US+EU. The best I can find is the perennially unreliable VGChartz listing the Genesis at roughly 17/8.5/3.5 US/EU/JP sales. SNES was roughly 22/8/17, so the difference is from softer US sales and much weaker sales in Japan. Minor point, but I think by "US" you mean "North America". Here in Canada the Genesis was also very popular, and a worthy rival to the SNES. EDIT- Gamer Griff, so true. By now they should name their consoles "The MarioZeldaMachine". Create some new IP, dammit.

It seems like that the impression varies on cities and countries. I guess, the sentence didn't really make sense here. I can't really remember the shop names during my early teenager years. I wonder if companies made certain contracts with retailers and wholesaling companies in certain regions. Stuff like that is hard to answer. Yours sincerely Jack Caeylin I would say that my personal no. 1 gaming sin is that I don't own and never have owned a PS2. Re: Random encounters, I definitely like them. I like visible encounters just fine as well, but with random encounters, the point is that you have to be prepared for the amount of battles the game throws at you, and while I get this really tests some people's patience, I personally really like that. - Again, I have a very low opinion to people who use term such like waifu or husbando, just use the japanese term like "otto", is is even shorter as the term husbando. You know this is just a joke right? I never meant jokes. On theory, a joke should be funny. I agree that it depends on taste and the situation like, (who is your favourite girl regarding marrying and to destroy the language barriere, because japanese games put dating sim in their games, thus they use these "katakana-romanji terms"), in that case, it is kinda cute, but throwing the term at every possible girl/guy and situation is not really funny. It is just plain dumb. I certainly agree terms like "waifu. husbando" can be seen or used as jokes, but I don't necessary believe that people use it in that way. If I am honest, to a certain degree, it just sounds dumb and racist in certain cases. I know stuff like "intentional dumb humour" have an existence. As an egalitarian, I certainly respect that, but stuff in the category like "hey, you are fat" is not really funny. It is just dumb. It really depends on the case. Maybe, I should put more information in certain questionable stuff, thus misunderstandings can be avoided. Yours sincerely Jack Caeylin

I get that Nintendo makes a lot of Mario and Zelda games, but we're just conveniently going to forget about Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Metroid, DK, Kirby or Smash? Not to mention tons of smaller downloadable stuff in recent years and series that haven't seen a new release in years? I mean, not everyone has to be as fond of Nintendo as I am, but let's not got too far with the anti-hype. I never meant jokes. On theory, a joke should be funny. Okay, it's just a thing people say when they mean their VG crush or a particular character they like. You're really overthinking this.

Not new, but it's more than just 2 franchises that dominate the systems.
Honestly, if they can keep the quality up, and they generally can, I don't see why they need to create that many new IPs (which they still do, but most of them are smaller admittedly).

Weren't like half of those technically created by developers affiliated with Nintendo rather than Nintendo proper? Pokemon - Game Freak, which started out making games for the Genesis, Kirby - HAL, Fire Emblem - Intelligent Systems, DK was long dead until Rare revived it, Smash just reuses all their old characters so it's arguably an extension of existing franchises...

Devil May Cry 2 is a good game. Ninja Gaiden Trilogy and Sigma 2 are good remakes of their respective games. I enjoyed the combat in Nier I like the Cyber Shinobi and Game Gear Double Dragon There are some things in original YS 3 that I like better than the Felghana version We traded Wave Race 64 for QUEST 64!(We do have another copy of Wave Race now though.)

I get a little burnt out on some first party Nintendo series too like Zelda (pre-Breath of the Wild, anyways), but seriously, for as many sequels as Nintendo releases, they also release a hell of a lot of original games too. Even if they just continued making sequels to series they already have, that would be ten times the variety Microsoft could ever hope to achieve. Microsoft is way worse in terms of consistently bringing out original games.

- Gimme a player creation tool, and my male characters will have as little clothing as humanly possible, as long as stats aren't involved. - I plain just don't get the appeal of JRPGs or Metal Gear Solid. Not for lack of trying, I really wanted to jump on their respective bandwagons, but I can't. Grandia/Grandia II, FFVIII, (old) Pokemon and the DQ DS remakes are pretty much the JRPGs I like. MGS feels like it may click one day, but it hasn't thus far. - I haven't liked an FPS game since Deus Ex Human Revolution. I started Mankind Divided, but I refused to sit through 30GB of patches and updates, played offline, and encountered a save game bug, so I gave up. Doom 2016 bores me to tears - I much prefer Doom 3. - I still think that Morrowind/Skyrim are better than The Witcher III. The Witcher II was also, imo, a better game. - I think the OG Xbox had a better library than the PS2, for my tastes at least.

- I plain just don't get the appeal of JRPGs Turn based battles is the biggest deal-breaker for me, it just doesn't float my boat at all. The art of games like Final Fantasy 6 or Phantasy Star IV does look very appealing to me though, so maybe one day...

I am afraid of cows.
-ed: also wasn't the Genesis more popular than the SNES in the UK?
