Anyone know how to solve this? It's fine for playing but I'd like to record a few music tracks from obscure games as well, so any little skip becomes an issue.
PC specs: Windows 10 64-bit 2x 2.7Ghz processor (intel core i5-6400) 8GB RAM
I've tried changing the yabause priority to highest but it had no effect. I don't recall having any audio issues using for example PS1 emulators or playing more recent PC games.
As for other emulators: SSF - Works well, but the audio emulation is noticeably worse with worse sounding overall instruments/mixing and even occasional out of tune instruments/notes. It also doesn't have an audio debugger that lets me see right away when a game uses SCSP music rather than redbook or streaming, which can be a problem for games without a sound test.
Retroarch (uses Yabause core) - I haven't been able to load any game I want to for recording purposes yet, it just crashes.

Try Mednafen with a front-end if you need it. Yabause hasn't been updated for 2 years now.

Alright, I wasn't able to figure that one out before but I've got a basic setup for it now. Sound seems on par with Yabause from testing one game, so that's promising.
Does it have any recording or sound debug options though?
Oh and for anyone using Yabause, try changing the sound core to DirectX. It's slightly worse than DSL but the choppiness should be gone.

1. How do I use command line options? 2. Where can I check what for example "0x0 53" means in terms of keyboard keys? I don't have a US keyboard.

For anything else refer to Mednafen documentation. It might take awhile to figure things out tho

You mean the Beetle core? I can't find any mednafen cores in the download list in retroarch.
Neither beetle nor yabause can load any games it seems..
I'll check out those GUIs though.
Edit: Those GUIs don't seem to have recording interface support. Anyone tried them?

Do saturn games need to be in a particular format for retroarch? Seems weird I can't load a single one.

Do saturn games need to be in a particular format for retroarch? Seems weird I can't load a single one. Bin/Cue and ccd cd format, at least that's what Mednafen recognizes. It reads Iso/cue with extracted music tracks in Wave format, but it all depends on the correct image dump i guess.

Well that's what I've got, other emulators use the same.

I remember Mednafen being somewhat picky about this, i.e. it's really not just the format that matters. I had to make sure to get verified dumps, like Darkwater or Redump.
Mednafen is also an option in Bizhawk, so you could try that as well. MAME/MESS have some working Saturn support, which I believe isn't worse than Yabause in terms of compatibility.

I have had issues with one or two games not having the right cue info, but I just had to change the path at the top of the text. Mednafen itself works great overall, just not in retroarch.
I'll try it in Bizhawk. I've started recording some tracks and they sound good with the OBS recorder set to lossless but still not quite 1:1 with the emulator's output. If anyone knows a better free software audio recorder then please let me know.
Edit: Bizhawk works well! Only minor issue is that the mixing seems different with a bit more bass, not sure which is more accurate though. But the final output is definitely cleaner than OBS.

Cool, I'll give it a try if I run into more games that I can't record with Bizhawk itself.
