Awww, not a fan of Faxanadu? I love that game! I do actually like (most of) Faxanadu quite a bit! I just find the controls and movement of the protagonist to be very annoying. It manages to be both stiff, loose, very jerky, too slow and too fast at the same time. But the overall atmosphere is one of the greatest ever in an NES game. It’s quite unsettling in places and has an almost Dark Souls quality to parts of its world and storytelling... Remake please? Yeah, I can agree with that. And while it isn't a remake, nor even technically a sequel in the truest sense, I do feel like Xanadu Next on PC is a spiritual sequel to Faxanadu more than to any other Xanadu game. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend doing so, as it really is one of the most underrated Falcom games IMHO. On topic, I've unsurprisingly discovered a number of other title screens that I really enjoy while playing through the MSX library, so I figure I'll share a few of my favorites now. "Fire Hawk: Thexder the Second Contact" is the first one that comes to mind -- its title screen is simple, but really effective at grabbing your attention pretty much instantly: "Psycho World" is another that really gets you in the mood for kicking ass: On the homebrew front, "Eggbert in Eggciting Adventure" -- the predecessor to the Toki Tori series (as in, this game is literally proto-Toki Tori) -- has a really cute title screen with a dancing chicken and a catchy piece of OPLL music: The "Silviana" title screen is just really cute, with all its happy poses: The title screen for "War of the Dead" is highly underrated IMHO, especially for what may be the MSX's only true survival horror title (aside from its own sequel). I just really like how this one is structured: And of course, there's the classic: "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake." Simple but effective, with a cool way of writing the text, followed by just a single ominous sound that basically just ENDS the music: -Tom

Super Smaaaaaaaaaash Brothers comes to mind. Also Mega Man X with its cool animations.
The Gen I Pokémon games where random Pokémon scroll by was also pretty cool as a kid.

Awww, not a fan of Faxanadu? I love that game! But I do agree, its title screen is great. And good choices all around, too -- I almost mentioned Owlboy myself. Also, the mention of Faxanadu got me thinking: Legacy of the Wizard! Not the NES version, which has just a plain and ordinary title screen, but the MSX2 version. If you've never seen its title screen before, check it out -- it's pretty badass, and is the first indication I had that the MSX2 version of the game is the best (a statement which I had confirmed after playing through the game in its entirety!): -Tom I didn't realize Drancia(Saga) copied this for their title screen.

Always found this one to be catchy. Lounge lizard. Lounge music. A man about to drive his Mitsubishi FTO (or mangled MR2 or kei-car? It's hard to tell) to go hustle pool.

As far as static title screens go - DOOM and DOOM II are pretty awesome.

The Legend of Zelda games all tend to have nice title screens. Even a few of them, like the original and Ocarina register in my head as "iconic."
Oh and this is easy mode here but Mega Man 2's title rocks rocks. No idea why he's on top of a building with his hair blowing in the wind but I always thought he looked like he was deep in thought like he's thinking about his burden as a super fighting robot. Gave things a bit of pathos as a kid. And the music of course.
