So, does anyone here know how to make Visual Novels?
Cuz I had an idea for a Danganronpa fangame so stupid it might just be brilliant.
Here's how it goes:
.... it would feature the cast of Scooby Doo. But still have like the class trials and everything.
I think this could be awesome!
....
yeah, probably not.
Has anyone else ever had stupid ideas for video games, maybe ideas that they almost acted on at some point but either decided against or ran up against the wall of reality? Got any juicy stories?

I had an idea for a text adventure about spelunking but then I realized I hate Twine and somebody made Colossal Cave Adventure anyway.

Not a stupid idea by me, but a possibly genius idea I stupidly shot down, maybe? Early 2000s, a former classmate of mine pitched a space colonization MMO web game to me that would be free but where everything would take real time and you could buy resources and speed-ups and such for real money. And I was like, yeah, like that business model will ever catch on...

For the beginning, I would suggest Ren’Py, because it is free and there are tons of free online tutorials in Videotube sites. Coding skills would be convenient. Lots of famous Visual novels were made through Ren'Pay, for example, Katawa Shoujo and Doki Doki literature club (and much more) The lemma soft forums will give you advices, if you have trouble with your visual novel, because it is a website with the purpose to help VN makers, since the year 2003. If you have experience in coding, then Unity or Visual Novel Maker could be interesting too.
Yours sincerely

I always liked the idea of an action game, either a shooter or something like Dynasty Warriors that was a large scale battle between 2 armies with each soldier and officer being controlled by a real person.
We're kinda getting there in the era of these Battle Royale games, but I was thinking of something more formalized with a chain of command and a variety of roles for each person. Teams would be rewarded for smart strategy and following orders.

For the Dynasty Warriors part , there used an English localization of Dynasty Warriors online, while for the shooter part there's Planetside 2.

"Reverse Metroid"; i.e. you start the game really strong and steadily become weaker as you progress.

I don't think it is a stupid idea but certainly not a cheap development idea. It is an anthology game, I would say like a Zelda-type adventure. Each act is made by a different director or writer and character designer. Different characters each time but set in the same world. You can play anybody's story in an order that may last something like 10 hours. Completing it gives you a bonus that would help the remaining stories. Impactful moments like opening up optional areas. Leaving items in chests. You get the idea.

"Reverse Metroid"; i.e. you start the game really strong and steadily become weaker as you progress. When I was a kid and played RPGs, always having higher leveled-characters, I wanted to at some points reset Levels to see what these characters would be like at level 1. I also thought it would be a good idea to make an RPG switching to a number of different genres at different points in the game. (because having only a few games as a kid, thinking it would be good to have one game that is like having a ton of different games.)
Then I learn about what happens when games need to program multiple game engines in one game... (thankfully we have things like the SNES Classic to save us from that bad idea )

That's basically Evoland 2 although it's mostly a Zelda clone. It works okay since the genre switches aren't too difficult. An MMO that replaces logged out users with an AI. This was inspired by how Unreal Tournament would do that for players that quit mid-match. I think the problem is that the AI could be better than a human e.g. the XC2 expansion has an auto battle feature (might have been added to the base game after I finished it) that plays it with instant response time. So, might as well be a single player game in that case.

Back when I was a kid in the early 90s, me and a buddy of mine where fantasizing about a "real-life simulator". Like, you wake up early in the morning and have to go to work..and you drive and later "you marry and stuff". Somehow, this was inspired by the old Hot Wheels game from Epyx. That game didn't really have a goal, you picked a car and drove around doing various car-related activities like oil changes, there was also demolition derby and some firefighting where you switched to a fire truck. This was running on a C64, which was the best hardware we had. Except our game would be in first person (of course...just like life!).
At one point, my buddy lied about seeing something like this on an Amiga or something, he claimed a guy he knew programmed it. But at some point, he really had a guy at his place who apparently had some programming knowledge. He showed him the car selection of Hot Wheels and asked if he could add another car to it (to see what's actually possible, you know). The guy looked at it and basically said that realistically, only the original programmer could do it. He also said something like "Why would you want something like this? There are already so many games". Lol.

Exotic pole-dancer arcade game.
Bartender management simulator. Choice of decor, music, drinks and bar food menu will attract different clientele. Your bar can end up as a family-friendly tourist establishment, or a speakeasy with dark ties to mobsters and corrupt government officials.
A game where you try to save endangered species by introducing and curating an environment where it becomes the dominant apex predator.

I went to a big state college always thought "This would make a cool setting for a GTA game" and I guess they actually made that (Bully).

So, might as well be a single player game in that case. I am forever thinking of how to make an MMO that I would actually like, and that's an idea that I would want to add to it. Like, I played HellMOO for a little while back when I was a goon, and while overall I didn't love the game, I was fascinated with how your character stayed in the world while you were logged out. This meant that it was actually important (and a major part of gameplay) to maintain a residence somewhere so you didn't get the shit kicked out of you in your sleep. Of course in practice this was one of the (many) frustrating things about the game because you would always get ganked by high level players when you were asleep and unable to fight back or run. This could have been mitigated by something like a gambit system, where you could program your character to take actions if suddenly attacked.

I went to a big state college always thought "This would make a cool setting for a GTA game" and I guess they actually made that (Bully). Now you mention it. A school I used to go to would made a great setting in a game too. It had two buildings linked from like a 2nd story "bridge". The older side of the building was nearly labyrinthine. As a friend once said "it would make a great indoor paintball arena".
