Ok so there's Super C and Contra III that have been re-released to death on pretty much every system with Virtual Console and then also on the NES and SNES Classic; but that's fine, they're good games and a no-brainer for inclusion in this "anniversary collection". But the arcade versions of both Contra and Super Contra? I can understand Contra on arcade being included, since that's where the series truly began. But why both. Most people don't like the arcade originals, and we've seen them released digitally several times already, too. So far, the first 4 titles in this set are ones that were ported and released digitally to hell and back.
Contra NES, Operation C, Contra: Hard Corps, Contra ReBirth; 4 is deserving, but that dual screen gimmick might complicate things. I wonder which of these will be in the other 4.
Side note: Contra: Hard Corps did get an obscure Windows port, but it was through the abysmal GameTap service. It was an official port, which Konami themselves gave the license for.

The closest it got was a couple Hard Corps levels replacing the top-down levels in the GBA version of Alien Wars. (which is odd, as the original Game Boy port of Alien Wars managed to keep those I believe. I think it was the "bike" level that got cut in the GB port.)

One of my favorite Contras is, in fact, Shattered Soldier. It’s not an especially pretty game (I prefer the 16-bit aesthetics of 3, 4 and HC)), but the core game is such a fun ride IMO. Is Shattered Soldier considered a good or bad Contra? I have no idea.

It was far too hard for me, alas. Contra Rebirth, Super C and Contra 3 are about my skill level

I do recall struggling to finish even the first level. Also I do believe that first boss turned to be a turtle like the Contra III boss. Except I remember this one wished to destroy me with its cosmic space alien farts.

I think I need to clarify that I’ve never beaten Shattered Soldier, but the 75% of the game I managed to experience (after much practice) was an absolute blast The game is extremely brutal indeed.

That's news to me Still though, it should really be more widely-available than just that. One of my favorite Contras is, in fact, Shattered Soldier. It's one of the best, by far. I love it so much; I've S-ranked it before, and it was tough, but I had a blast doing so

Interesting fact in the retail version of Contra Advance, these HC levels have considerably simplified boss AI, slightly different enemy behavior, too. They were made easier to balance the difficulty, since you don't have the slide. A prototype version shows that the original behavior was planned to be used instead. Definitely ups the game difficulty. Speaking of the GBA version, if they're going to cop out with digital re-releases for this anniversary, they might as well throw in this GBA port and Contra MSX.

Really? That's news to me Still though, it should really be more widely-available than just that. Yeah, it was a rather shoddy deal. They released it around 2006 IINM, along with some other Konami MD titles. It was basically like the virtual console, but for PCs. For a membership fee, you'd play these with rudimentary customization. GameTap also offered other console games, like NES, SNES, etc. But they stopped offering most of the console games a few years later, and the service is ass up now.

Shattered soldier gets much more manageable once you realise that weapons have charge variants and the charge flamethrower is insanely OP.

from ESRB site.
This is a collection of eight classic games from the Castlevania series in which players assume the role of vampire hunters battling to defeat Dracula and his minions inside a castle. From a side-scrolling perspective, players use whips, spears, axes, and magic attacks to defeat fantastical creatures (e.g., Frankenstein's monster, zombies, skeletons) in melee-style combat. Battles are highlighted by impact sounds, cries of pain, and screen-shaking effects. A handful of areas depict pixelated blood dripping from a fountain and staining the background; one title screen depicts blood dripping into a large pool. During the course of the game, players can encounter topless creatures (e.g., harpies, medusa)—though there are no discernable details (i.e., no nipples).
Bloodlines confirmed! Come on, spears? Bloody title screen? Please be M2!!!

Seeing that Belmont's Revenge is in it, I can't imagine other two Game Boy games doesn't make the cut. Throw in Dracula X and Bloodlines, and that's gonna be the whole list.

The second GB game is the best one though. The first is awful. The third isn't bad, but it's has less interesting gameplay for the most part.

Yeah, but it doesn't look like they care about whether the game is good or not. The fact that Haunted Castle was picked doesn't leave me much faith. I hope this is comprehensive re-release that eventually goes over entire series, and not some random "best of" collection (e.g. Atari Vault, which consists of 90% Atari 2600 dump and leaves out titles like Marble Madness).

I wouldn't want GB Adventure when Rebirth remake can be readily available. Legends does have me curious for a playthrough. If only because of the fuss IGA made about its canon eligibility.
