A choice of CV3 soundtrack would be nice.

At least the arcade collection pack seems to be composed of American versions according to reviews, even when the Japanese versions are typically liked more, so who knows what versions the Castlevania and Contra packs use. It also needs windows 10 to run next to zero PC games ever require windows 10 to work and a collection of 30+ year old sure should not need to.

Holy shit, the Steam store page actually says that Windows 10 is a minimum requirement. Wtf. I'm still on Windows 7 D: Is there a workaround for that? I'd like to know before I consider investing in this. Or... if not, maybe I'll get the Switch versions of these collections. But requiring Windows 10 for emulation collections like this is absurd.

Not sure if the extra materials would bump it up.

Not that I'm aware of. I myself just requested and received my refund on those grounds, so Steam seems to think it's true! Who the hell made this decision, I wanna know. Commentors are pointing out that the regional pricing on Steam is absurd in multiple regions. I literally can't comment on the game itself, but the distribution is looking like a tire fire.

Looks like Kid Dracula is getting all new translation. I wonder who's handled it? Edit: I also noticed that Castlevania III screenshots are from the Japanese version (the fonts are different). Maybe this means III is also re-localized for this collection? That would be neat.

What the fuck, Castlevania pack has the japanese versions when they are better but the arcade pack doesn't!?
The hell is wrong with Konami, and yeah, the arcade pack could be a lot better, didn't even notice the Windows 10 requirement...then again, i am one of those people that changed to Windows 10 as soon as it became available and later bought a PC that came with Windows 10 already in it, so it wouldn't matter to me, still, seems like a weird choice for a retro compilation.
Anyways, there is literally no way of changing versions, Thunder Cross is stuck at the Lil Baby version which is widely considered to be the very worst version of the game, Haunted Castle just isn't that fun and Nemesis(Gradius) is a lying game, in that they give you more power-ups than Gradius, but make up for it with more bullets and enemies making the game actually harder and it's just not as fun or as well balanced as the original Gradius.
Which wouldn't matter if Konami didn't region lock a freaking arcade compilation on the PC, oh wait, it's available everywhere, i meant, region lock the pack with the best versions, why the hell couldn't we just pick between the US and JP versions, or just have the more famous and considered to be better versions on the pack everywhere!?
I really can't understand Konami with this one, i just can't.

I grabbed the arcade collection too—mainly for the eBook which is certainly longer than I though it would be—and it does stink that only only a single region is included. At least on Switch, the Japanese version can be purchased if you're willing to jump through a few hoops. The price is higher though (~$30).

...I had no idea the US versions of some of those games were worse. Though at least I believe Nemesis has continues whereas Gradius doesn't. But then, you really want to be playing that game without dying anyway, so arguably that's not even a plus...
I'll probably get the JP version on Switch, then. Too bad it's more expensive, apparentely.
That does make me wonder about the Castlevania collection. Ideally, for CVIII, you'd be able to mix your soundtrack of choice with your balancing of choice, but we all know Konami wouldn't go there (I mean, M2 would go there, but probably not while working under Konami). Then again, the regional changes go farther than that. Let's just hope that the western versions include the Japanese version, more or less.

Also, no online leaderboards, hell, it doesn't even save your scores unless you use a save state, and you know how many many PC games allows you to change keys to whatever is more comfortable for yourself in a keyboard or controller?
Yeah, Konami doesn't let you do that either because Konami, i wouldn't mind this if i happened to like the keyboard layout, but PC gamers in Konami apparently use different layouts than me and i don't find them that comfortable, at least not with a keyboard.

That's kinda weird as the Switch version does let you modify the controls.

It kinda does?
You can put rapid fire, you just have specific keys locked you can't remove, WASD and the arrow keys move(they don't even show on the controls), IHJ and such are the keys that do things...and that's about it, what, you wanted to use the arrow keys and the ZXC buttons?
Get the fuck out of here according to Konami, you will use IHJ to attack and do stuff and you will love it, but you can change what those keys do at least, it's just tied to those specific ones...for some reason...is it bad that i am seriously considering taking screenshots of the Bonus Book, keeping that for myself, refund this pack and just get something else instead on Steam?

The Castlevania collection will have both international and Japanese versions...but the latter will be a post-launch update.
So JP CVIII it is!

I got this today (or... I guess it's yesterday now lol) for the Switch. This isn't perfect (I do wish the controls could be remapped), but it seems like a very nice collection, and I'm happy to own it. I never had most of these Castlevania games growing up, so it'll be cool to finally dig into them (as well as to see what the Japanese versions are like when they arrive) I can't wait to see how the Contra collection turns out.
