I really want to play Grandia 1 again. Grandia for me has the best RPG battle system yet conceived. The first grandia is like a Saturday morning anime adventure. The second one is good but the visuals have dated and the story is quite generic.

No Grandia III? No Grandia EXTREME???
(Tbh I barely know what Grandia Extreme was? I think it skipped Europe entirely.)
Anyway, I’d love to play Grandia 1 someday, only ever played the 2nd one which was pretty good as I remember.

Grandia 2 was the game that made me hate JRPG storylines. Cool combat system though.

This was when Square-Enix probably has the rights to them. That and the budget Gung-Ho has they likely just prefer to bring back Grandia 1 than the later games that people dn't seem very fond of.

I am cautiously optimistic about this. I want Grandia 1's HD remaster/remake to be based on the superior Sega Saturn version but, chances are, they will use the PSX version as the basis for this conversion.

How does the Playstation version correlate with the Saturn source code, as it relates to this remaster?

I hope not, if they're making an updated port for other platforms then they should bring that to PC, rather than rename the broken mess they currently have.

The Saturn version is the better looking game which is probably why they are using it as a basis for the remake. PS1 code is probably being used as a basis for the modern polygon rendering rather than the Saturn quads.

Hopefully it proves to be a definitive version of the game then.

Some Japanese-exclusive GBC game. I think it was fan-translated but I can't remember.)

Anyway, I’d love to play Grandia 1 someday, only ever played the 2nd one which was pretty good as I remember. Grandia III never reached Europe either. It's just more talked about because it's a "real" entry not a spinoff like Extreme.
No Parallel Trippers, either. (I don't know much about it either. Some Japanese-exclusive GBC game. I think it was fan-translated but I can't remember.)
It was. I played it a couple years ago. It's decent but no big loss. Has a card battle system, but not in the way one would think. It's more that you equip cards as skills that you can use when the characters turn comes in battle. They even use the whole "timeline to see who goes when" of the main series and let you decide where on the bar you want to set your action - the longer you let it cast, the stronger it is. So it is rather unique and not uninteresting, a decent time waster. Just not amazing.

new info and video gematsu.com/2019/06/grandia-hd-collection-e3-2019-gameplay-screenshots-and-information-tidbitsHightlights: -No date but "very soon" -NO physical copy -No other platforms but Switch and PC for now -Sickhead games is porting it. -Playstation code but "GungHo Online Entertainment touched up as many art assets as possible. Most of the user interface received a complete overhaul, aside from a few menu digits that could not be replaced. There is no option to use the original sprites." So basically it is Playstation version but graphically won't be the same. -Japanese Voice will be in the game but during demo only English was available. -No Grandia III due to complications of how owns the rights and who published (aka Square-Enix I"m sure). Looking at the video it doesn't look like a major overhaul to warrant this long of a development. Looks like the just put smooth filter to a PS1 emulated version. The battle screens doesn't look that crisp.
