Ugh, the modern cartoon art style is a massive turn off for me. Mind you I don't have any interest in Xbox so I wouldn't be likely to play anyway. If it comes to PC, I might still check it out when/if it was cheap, out of nostalgia.

Wow, I completely agree with you, Sac. The art style in this game is HIDEOUS. It looks like some sort of cheap Flash game from 10 years ago, except in ultra HD.
All the charm and ACTUAL 'tude of the original sprites in the original game (and especially Battlemaniacs on SNES) is just... completely gone. This is like a soulless shell of what Battletoads used to be.

if you want an actually good Flash-styled beat-em-up, play Castle Crashers or Shank instead. This Battletoads reboot makes me think of low budget Canadian cartoons like Johnny Test.

That looks realllllllly bad.
Especially the new Dark Queen.
Why does modern culture hate sexy so much? What is people's fucking problem?

Yeah that looks cheap. Could be fun, but I think they should went 25% grittier. People have trouble with Streets of Rage 4's art style but Battletoads here lacks some details Streets of Rage 4 going for.

It looks way too busy and noisy. At the same time, the punches and combos seem to come out really slowly. I'm not a fan of Battletoads as a series, but this looks way worse in terms of gameplay. The graphics remind me of the new Toejam & Earl, but somehow cheaper. The new T & E is actually decent, though, visuals aside.

I like that Turbo Tunnel is now in shoulder view. That would make things less deceptive.
Others... I don't mind the art style. The problem is that characters blend into backgrounds and other special effects that surround them. They're hard on my eyes.

Nothing at all against this art style: it remembers me of good old Battle Beast and Arcade America for some reason.
But the new toki remake seems more refined, in the art style department.

Thanks for the reminder.

From what I've seen, I'm actually OK with the visual style in the new TJ&E game. It's not my preference, but it seems a lot more faithful to the source material than this does. This feels like the developers just don't really "get it." They're trying to replicate the feel of Battletoads, but they don't really know how.
With TJ&E, it feels budget, but still in line with what came before.
...Also, my copy of TJ&E from Limited Run Games should be arriving shortly. I'm actually quite looking forward to checking it out, as I've heard they did a really nice job capturing the feel of the original -- and I have a LOT of fond memories of the original!

I thought this looked okay, from an art style perspective. It's not something that truly wows me, but it looks fine enough, I think.
