For the last several months, I've been working on a trio of reviews for the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy for the PS1. I've written reviews for Spyro 1/2 and gathered screenshots for all three games, but I'm currently up against a wall when it comes to writing the review for the third game, Year of the Dragon. I have a good chunk of the review written out, but I'm concerned that it might be a bit too negative in parts - and that's not even because of the game itself. I think it's because I'm currently burnt out on these games.
For context, I've played the original trilogy several times over the last 9 or 10 years (though I often broke them up by a few months), and I've had to play through them all again within the last few months. I also played the Japanese versions of the first two games for the reviews, and did a very quick playthrough of 3 to confirm a theory of mine that I'm planning to discuss in the review itself. In other words, I've played through each game twice in this year alone, and I think I've gotten tired by the time Year of the Dragon rolled around. I was just starting to rush through levels and not really consider things as much as I normally would when reviewing a game, because I was so burn out.
With that in mind, I'd like to ask folks on here what they think of Year of the Dragon, particularly to folks who consider it to be the best game. I want to know why you think it's the best, and I want to know what else you think of it otherwise. I'm only really asking so I can get outside of my drained perspective for a few minutes and consider points that might never have occurred to me, which might help me write a better review that evaluates the game more positively.
I am planning to play through YOTD one last time, since I've noticed that I tend to better figure out certain points on a second playthrough (e.g. I had a hard time writing about 1 and 2 until I played through their Japanese points and started to consider aspects such as the level designs or the overall structure). But I'm gonna give that a week or two before I dive back in, so please write in with any thoughts about YOTD - hopefully, it can help me overcome that wall and finally finish these reviews. Thank you.
