Hey can any of you help me.... I have this obsession about Neuschwanstein Castle and how it kept appearing in 8/16-bit games . I have collected as many as I could find in that IMGUR. Do you know of it showing up in any other games? imgur.com/a/AhEcrXS

Ha, this is new to me. Makes sense that medieval castles in games would be based on real-life castles in a lot of cases. I don't think I can help you with examples, though - castles all look the same to me.

In Resident Evil, at least the REmake, the picture that hides the door to the room where you can change outfits also shows Neuschwanstein IIRC.

The above article also mentions Gabriel Knight 2 The Beast Within, which is set in Bavaria.
Some designs from the movie Castle of Cagliostro are inspired by Neuschwanstein, I think. Cagliostro itself then became a source of inspiration for the first Castlevania and its sequels.

I havent played it but found a let's play and captured footage of that and added it to the IMGUR. I knew I would find all the answers here.

Looks like someone wrote the same article I am trying to write. Thanks for this link!

So you've already updated your imgur-site - that's pretty quick. Looking forward to seeing how it'll develop.

I don't think I can help you with examples, though - castles all look the same to me. Neuschwanstein looks somewhat distinct, and is well-preserved - mainly because it's only 150 years old. But it's probably what a lot of people expect from a European castle.

I can see the distinctive elements now that they're being pointed out, but it's just not the sort of thing I would've noticed on my own. I wouldn't be surprised if I've come across a bunch more castles based on this one in some of the RPGs I've played through the years.
