Ha, this is new to me. Makes sense that medieval castles in games would be based on real-life castles in a lot of cases. I don't think I can help you with examples, though - castles all look the same to me. Neuschwanstein looks somewhat distinct, and is well-preserved - mainly because it's only 150 years old. But it's probably what a lot of people expect from a European castle. What's is kind of funny about Schloss Neuschwanstein is that it is very impressive from the outside, but almost a bit of a letdown when you visit it, because it is largely unfinished from the inside and the tour guides quickly shuffle you through a couple of rooms.
