Streets of Rage 4 PS4 FTP 2 hours
Brother and I played some couch co-op. SoR 2 was my favorite Genesis game growing up and the nostalgia was strong with SoR4. We had a blast playing through this one. Soundtrack is awesome and the stage/enemy variety kept things interesting. The game adds just enough to the combat to alleviate tedium but not so much that it overly complicates game-play. One of the best beat'em ups I've played in years.

I've been lazy about posting in this thread. Lately, I beat Rock of Ages for the first time on Xbox 360. Estimated playtime: Nine hours. I also beat Iketsuki for the first time on PC. Estimated playtime: Two hours, because I suck Iketsuki messed me up but good. It's been a while since a game messed with my head.

Finished Duke Nukem 3D (DOS on native hardware; Replay) last night. I had only previously finished this in co-op (over a decade ago), so it was time to play it solo. It's still Duke Nukem 3D all right. Some of the enemy spawn triggers were a bit annoying, as were two specific enemy types (Mini Battlelords and the Sentry Drones), but overall I still enjoyed it. 8/10 I guess. NOTE: I played the original 3-episode CD release of the game. I do have access to the Atomic Edition, but I had played episode 4 separately much later than the others, and didn't want to replay that this time around. I also realize I never posted Blazing Chrome (PS4; First time). I finished that at the end of March. A solid Contra clone on modern hardware. 8/10. EDIT: Also finished The Haunted Island, a Frog Detective Game (Windows via Wine on Linux; First Time) this morning. A silly and short adventure game, but probably not one to return to. 6/10. ~1 hour

Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck (Genesis/Mega Drive) - Replay, 38 minutes timer
Very mediocre platformer with an amazing soundtrack. This is a replay as I wasn't 100% sure I beat it back in the day, after the replay I'm pretty sure I did.
Rating: 6
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (Genesis/Mega Drive) 1st time timer: 1hr 05mins
Arguably the best Shinobi game, certainly the best of the 8/16 bit era. There's a mountain level which downright cruel, other than that it's easier than The Revenge of Shinobi, but not as easy as Shadow Dancer. The graphics, music and animation are all top notch.
Rating: 8
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) 1st Time timer: 1hr 10minutes
I'm not 100% sure the timer is accurate it felt a lot longer. The graphics, music and sound FX are all first rate. The gameplay is sadistic in places with the worst tropes of NES games like enemies blocking platforms and respawning. In my favour I had played this back in the day, but never completed it, so I had an idea what I was doing, the learning curve would be way steep if I hadn't played this in the early 90s with a friend who could beat it. The last bosses weren't too difficult as I just spammed them with the sonic boom power up or boomerangs. The game nearly ranks as a 7, but the difficulty made me lower it.
Rating: 6
Her Story (PC via GoG) 1st timer; Timer 3hrs 03minutes
Great game, a lot has been said about it already, don't know if it's one I would play again though.
Rating: 8
Super Star Wars (SNES) 1st time, timer 1hr 31mins
A pretty solid platform game. The "3D" sections and the deat star trench I'm sure were stunning at the time, but these are tedious now. The John Williams score is incredible for the system.

Picross 3D (DS, Replay) Picross 3D is probably the greatest picross-esque game that will ever be released. It really comes down to the very whimsical animations that every model has. They are so charming for almost every single one with only the smallest handful being weirdly humdrum. The lack of animations in Round 2 really makes it less fun to push through the harder puzzles even though the gameplay is more advanced with its dual block gameplay. What it does have over the original volume is a button to instantly remove the 0 blocks. Carving out the model is fun in general, but it gets tiresome to remove those blocks over the course of ~300 puzzles. I completed every single built-in puzzle with 3 stars to fully unlock everything, and with a conservative estimate/average of 1 minute per puzzle, that's 5 solid hours on just removing extra blocks without even factoring in restarts! The extreme high quality of the whole package totally makes up for that though. I can't believe I spent something like 5 weeks on this. The time really flew by. I really wish I had played my actual cart on my 3DS instead of emulated just to know the actual time which is probably mind boggling. Rating: 9.5 (really a 10 but minus -0.1 for each hour removing extra blocks) Why did you emulate it if you own the cart? I'm assuming you did play it on a DS, not on a PC? I love Picross 3D Round 2 (haven't played the original), but I can't imagine going through that entire game in a few weeks. That's a multi-month, perhaps multi-year process of playing it every once in a while. It drives me crazy playing it too much. It also hurts my hand for some reason. Do I finish Pokemon Shield's main story when I beat Leon in the Champion Cup? Because I got credits. It does feel a bit anti-climactic, doesn't it? You honestly didn't pick a great point to come back to the franchise, I feel. Except for gen 6, anything since gen 3 has been better than Sword and Shield. I keep wanting to go back to the multiplayer, since that's where the focus really seems to lie this time regarding the changes and additions this gen, but it's so damn time consuming and there's tons of games to play. Had they streamlined the whole process of breeding and training mons I'd probably still be playing it regularly.

I kinda dug Gen 6. It was probably the first full blown 3D Pokemon (Gen 5 was a weird halfsies kinda thing), it had mons that I mostly like, and I really enjoyed the Amie function.

I love picross in general and did just plow through it. I mostly played it in the morning while listening to the news. I think I did about one to two hours worth every day maybe even three hours some days. It was just more convenient to emulate it since I'd go back to it throughout the day for one or two puzzles depending on the size.
The biggest problem I had with Gen. 6 was that the story got way too crazy but in a bad way. It was a pretty big step down from Gen. 5 in that regard. The full 3D was great, but I think there was a certain charm lost in the transition away from animated sprites in particular.

Pokenon isn't a fun series to catch up with. Just price checking the DS era stuff because it's expensive, wish these games get rereleases often instead. You think Nintendo and Pokemon Company would care if Kids get to find and enjoy all the generations. Instead you have to pay hundreds of dollars for a decent collection. Anyways, I am such a casual fan so I don't pay attention to all the bells and whistles. As I said before the big hangup is the level design. Coming to Shield after playing other RPGs it is a weak JRPG in that regard.

I do like the idea of expansions for Sword and Shield. It's much better idea than just releasing the game again. I'm surprised they didn't try that earlier.

Streets of Rage 4, first time (PC).
Still don't think it feels or looks like a real SOR, but that's okay, because it's a really good game anyway... if you play as Cherry (or Adam, once you unlock him). They removed the dash for the other starting characters and they feel far too sluggish for single-player as a result. Finished it on Normal solo, got a 2-player game halfway through with a friend, and finished the first stage on Mania, which is actually harder than any stage on Normal. Mania is crazy. It's cool cause it forces you to really figure out the intricacies of the battle system, though. Beat-'em-ups are a simple genre, and this one is still relatively simple despite a few additions and expanded features (ie landing on your feet with Up+Jump works with everything now, so it's way more important), but that simplicity sometimes fools people into thinking there isn't any depth. There are quite a few little things to take into account in this game, especially on the harder difficulties. I've played it for about 8 hours at this point and I'm not bored by it yet.

Yes, Master! (PC - Steam) 1st time, time taken 18 minutes, all achievements unlocked.
A middle-of-the-road point and click game. Not really very good on any level apart from the artwork which is above average. The game was a lot more explicit than I imagined it would be and that's not a good thing.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens (macOS, First Time)
I think this is the first Shantae I've actually finished despite owning the previous 3 and playing the first. It's a pretty good metroidvania overall, but it's also a little too easy particularly the bosses. Some are a complete joke while others are fairly tedious without being difficult either. Gameplay is generally simplified over the others with transformations being more like standard upgrades. Dances are still around but exclusively used for some full screen spells. Overall, there isn't anything new here and maybe even slightly diminished over some of the earlier games, but it's still mostly fun with some nice animation.
I finished in "6:25:15". I'm pretty sure the timer is busted though as it definitely counted something like an hour of play time as two minutes at one point.

Streets of Rage 4 (NSW, 1st, 5h)I love it. Played through it with Axel, then Cherry, then SOR1 Axel so far, all on normal. Each playthrough was easier than the last, which I'm sure has to do with the character selection and not just me getting better at the game. Cherry can bounce all over the place and SOR1 Axel's main combo is very strong to make up for his lack of moves. It totally nails the gameplay and the music is not as bad as I had feared. Having the option to switch to the retro soundtrack is still very welcome, though. Although some of the picks are kind of weird. Was anyone waiting for random 8-bit tracks mixed in with the Genesis tracks? It's jarring and they're not that interesting. I'm surprised you can unlock all versions of previous characters and they all play like they did in the game of origin. I thought they were just going to be one version or skins or something. That'll keep me busy for sure. Rating: 9/10I love picross in general and did just plow through it. I mostly played it in the morning while listening to the news. I think I did about one to two hours worth every day maybe even three hours some days. Picross is really a lounging in bed with the 3DS in hand kind of game for me.

Streets of Rage 4 (NSW, 1st, 5h)the music is not as bad as I had feared. Went through it again thinking: maybe my high expectations shaded the quality? Nope, still don't hear it. With the 2 best tracks coming from Harumi Fujita(and even those barely making it). The rest is just contemporary trash for the masses.
