The English version of Syd of Valis for the Genesis, on top of completely mistranslating the game's name (it's supposed to be "SD Valis"), leaves the game's end credits entirely in Japanese:
I imagine there are some other examples of "localizations" that just couldn't be arsed to translate all the text. What else?

It's not text, but the Breath of Fire IV opening animation has voice acting that was neither dubbed into English nor did they bother subtitling it.

Wasn't there a town in Suikoden 2 that was entirely untranslated? I think Lufia 2 has some untranslated lines too but I think these were just errors and not laziness. Maybe.

Ogre Battle 64 has a few lines left untranslated.
Breath of Fire 4's credits are also untranslated.
A lot of the Samurai Shodown credits (and some intermissions) are in pure Japanese, with no subtitles.

I don't remember it clearly from playing the game myself, but when Ar tonelico 2 released, there was a lot of talk about the shabby localization job and that they forget to translate parts of (mostly optional) text.

I had actually recorded a video of the Ogre Battle 64 issue that Rey's referring to. Dunno if there were more than this one.

Syd of Valis also leaves the Game Over screen in Japanese:
Yes, that is from the English version.
Even the game's packaging is totally screwed up. The game itself renames Yuko to "Syd" but the back of the box (and the manual) still calls her Yuko, and the American box art is taken straight from Sugoroku '92 for the PC Engine. which isn't even a Valis game.
And the title screen calls the game "Valis Syd" rather than Syd of Valis.
This has got to be a contender for most half-assed localization in video game history.

Man, OB64 had such a great soundtrack.

phediuk I'd never noticed that the guy from Cosmic Fantasy was on the Syd of Valis cover. Actually a few characters from that series are there. I'm pretty sure the guy with the spear is Van from Cosmic Fantasy 2, just dressed up in a suit. At least the girl in the center is actually Yuko, even though the cover's not really from Valis 2 / SD Valis.

Not totally the same, but the Monado symbols in Xenoblade are just the kanji for what's selected.
