Oh, I don't know if they've been mentioned but the N64 WCW games were legit. The grappling felt great at the time. They were based on a Japan-only wrestling game series called Virtual Pro Wrestling.

Agreed on those wrestling games. Wrestlemania the Arcade Game plays more like a fighting game which was different. The ones on N64 from AKI corp were excellent since a great job was done with the core engine. The VPW games used the AJPW license alongside using unlicensed wrestlers from other promotions (so not sure if those coint for this thread), but of course the Western ones used WCW and then later WWF.

The Technos WWF games (Superstars and Wrestlefest) are perfect arcade games. Just tremendously simple fun to play. They tried doing a modern remake of Wrestlefest a few years back and it's really terrible, sadly.
The latest Fire Pro Wrestling game has a New Japan license. Fire Pro is pretty much considered the gold standard for wrestling games so it's worth checking out.
Modern mainline WWE games aren't really good. Though there's tons of customization available, the games have become a bloated, glitchy mess that aren't particularly fun. The last one was such a disaster that they're skipping a year.

Yeah, I've been playing Fire Pro since X Premium. Fantastic series. Since only a couple have licenses and with the focus on customisation though I don't feel like the license adds anything to the game.

Somehow I forgot to mention the Zillion games on Master System. I really like the second, great arcade-style action game.

Oh yes Zillion its very good example because in Anime Laser pistols are bassed on Sega Phasers, it can be little shame they not used in games. Who knows what if Sega made third Zillion but as Rail Shooter. About anime bassed, how about Super Robot Wars/Taisen series? There a lot licensed series, Mazinger Z, Gundam series, Evangelion etc etc and that why license are problem release these games outside Japan, If that happen Banpresto become bankrupt.
