Since we have a thread looking back over the last year I thought it would be fun to also have one that looks forward to what we have to look forward to in the next year. For this thread I'd like to hear about games and game related stuff you're looking forward to, whether it be new releases, playing something from your backlog or anything relevant really.
Releases: 2021 is looking to have a lot of releases that interest me, so I'll just focus on a few of those for now:
New Pokemon Snap - I have a lot of memories of Pokemon Snap as a game where I share my experience with others and enjoy spending time together. I've had many playthroughs over the years and I hope to create more similar memories with the new one. I don't expect this to be on anyone's game of the year list, but for me it is a standout release.
No More Heroes 3 - I'm cautiously optimistic for this one and what little has been shown has been promising. The first was one of my favourite games on the Wii. 2 wasn't quite as good for me, but with Suda back at the helm I'm hoping to return to form.
Cyber Shadow - I've been lacking a really good ninja game on Switch and this looks to fit the bill exactly. The game is coming in January so I won't have long to wait to see if it meets my expectations.
Playing: Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection - I managed to get this on sale, and although I do have some experience with the series (mostly the first one) I am excited to delve in further. I'm not quite sure what the best way is to play these (especially the 3 versions of V) but I guess I'll just start at the beginning. There's also some interesting DVDlike extra features so it'll be a great way to learn more about the history of this franchise.
Ori and the Blind Forest: Got this following the recent packaged release for Switch. I've heard so many good things and am a big Metroidlike fan also. I'm hoping it lives up.

Haven't looked into it much at all besides 2D metroidvanias, but Pokemon Snap sounds like my cuppa tea. I'm also interested in Freedom Planet 2 and Psychonauts 2.
Top 13 among the MVs I've looked into thus far (they should all be on YT): Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth - It's out but in early access Hollow Knight: Silksong Vernal Edge DeathStick Gestalt: Steam & Cinder Savior The Crown Stones: Mirrah FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch The Last Faith Eastern Exorcist Wallachia: Reign of Dracula Ghost Song SteamDolls: Order Of Chaos

Axiom Verge 2 - I wasn't terrible thrilled with the first one, but this one looks a bit more interesting to me.
Bravely Default II - To be honest, I didn't like the first demo and haven't gotten to the new one yet. Kinda seems like it's going in the wrong direction, but the demo was of a mid-game chunk so maybe it starts out better.
Cyber Shadow - That was a big surprise at the last Indie World.
Gnosia - Another IW surprise. Looking like an interesting format for a VN.
Monster Hunter Rise - I'm lukewarm on the series, but I did put in a fair amount of time into Generations. I'm hoping that having a docked set up now and not constantly worrying about the safety of the JoyCons might make it a bit more enjoyable.
New Pokémon Snap - I never played the original at all, and everyone seems to love it so much.
No More Heroes 3 - I liked the first two, but Travis Strikes Again was a huge disappointment for various reasons. I still remain cautiously optimistic.
Sports Story - Sad it got moved out of 2020, and maybe that should be a worrying sign, but Golf Story is so great that I'm putting any hesitation aside.
Super Mario 3D World - This will be my first Wii U to Switch double dip outside of Lego games on super sale. The original is so great.

Pokemon Snap is one of those games where it's kind of shocking there hasn't been multiple sequels. The original is really beloved for good reason.
I'm not even a big Pokemon fan but I might pick it up because I bet my kid would get a kick out of it.

I can't really think of anything to be honest. There's some nice smaller things, and I'm sure there will be plenty of cool ports and unexpected things. But I don't think there's anything currently announced that made me jizz my pants when it got announced. The Mario 3D World port's new content and Cuphead DLC will be nice, but those are additions to games I already know. Smash DLC is always the most exciting thing for me and there's 3 left for this year, so that's a thing, I guess...
There's always plenty of things to play, so I'm not complaining, but I have yet to see anything mind-blowing lined up for 2021. 2020 honestly was also pretty dry.

Seriously though, a shame there's nothing too exciting for you yet but I think there will be more core Nintendo games this year. There's a bunch of teams who haven't shown a new product in 3-4 years, so some of them at least should hit this year.

There's a bunch of teams who haven't shown a new product in 3-4 years, so some of them at least should hit this year. It's not that bad if there's nothing interesting coming out in a given year because that means I can catch up with stuff I missed or stuff that's been sitting in my collection unplayed. At the same time, being blown away by an awesome game reveal is part of the fun, and I've missed that lately. Ah well. A couple of Nintendo titles will probably end up being revealed and released this year, but Nintendo has been a little slow on the releases with the Switch. Which is fine for the reasons stated above, but they are the games I usually look forward to the most. 2020 has also been kind of slow, with ACNH, Paper Mario and Age of Calamity being the only major ones I can think of from the top of my head.

Releases:
Ys IX Ghosts’n Goblins Resurrection Tales of Arise Cyber Shadow Gestalt: Steam & Cinder R-Type Final 2 Super Mario 3D World
Possible releases:
Faeland King of Fighters XV Elden Ring Zelda 3D All-Stars (or something similar. Seems highly likely, right?) Granblue Fantasy Re:link
There’s more but I’m not sure how hyped I am for them yet. Bravely Defauly II could be really good but I’ll wait and see. Same with something like the Nier remake.
If I can dream:
A surprise new 2D Metroid.

-Balan Wonderworld (the new Yuji Naka/Naoto Ohshima game) -Scarlet Nexus -Ghostwire Tokyo -Psychonauts 2 -New Pokemon Snap -Hogwarts Legacy (mild curiosity) -Mass Effect Legendary Edition (just to see how Bioware screw this one up) -Future KOF game? -Future Sonic game? -The ability to buy a Xbox Series X at non-scalper prices
Are there any other good platformers coming out this year? I know Super Mario 3D World, but I already beat that on Wii U.

I forgot Little Nightmares II which I’m gonna pick up too. In general I try to support smaller swedish game developers (those that aren’t DICE or Mojang or things like that). It may not be much but at least it’s something. Was a fan of the first Little Nightmares although I think there were a couple of issues here and there. Hopefully the sequel is a better experience.

Are there any other good platformers coming out this year? I know Super Mario 3D World, but I already beat that on Wii U. Hard to know if they're good until they're released but a couple that are announced are 'Clive N' Wrench' and indie Jumping Flashlike 'Forza Polpo'. I've put links to the trailers below for you. There's a few others indicated to be coming that come to mind, but there's no footage for now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4IwGqxE4q4www.youtube.com/watch?v=msVwG-1LwVEAlso, Super Mario 3D World will add extra content which Nintendo have only teased so far, but is said to be fairly substantial, so it may be at least worth a look.
