Can't believe I forgot SMTV although I'm still half expecting it to slip into 2022. jackcaeylin mentioned that Nocturne HD has issues, so that's one I'm cautious about.

A patch for SMT3HD already came out that is supposed to fix some of the mayor issues. Not sure if it really gets rid of all performance problems, tho. It does also included the QoL change of being able to pick skill inheritence when fusing. I doubt there'll ever be anything done to the compressed audio or cutscenes being in 4:3 low res. Maybe by fans in the rumored Steam release.

Although, I still wonder how the Switch version looks and runs like. I think, every problem will be already patched until the release of the international version. It just sucks for import players.

Are there any other good platformers coming out this year? I know Super Mario 3D World, but I already beat that on Wii U. I mean, it would be reasonable to think that 2021 is the year of a brand new Mario too, say, a holiday release? Most people seem to think that Nintendo would release Mario Odyssey 2, but I honestly think they’re going for something completely new, like they usually do. But who knows! (Same with the next Zelda. Why would Nintendo automatically call it Breath of the Wild 2? When did they ever name Zelda sequels like that?)

Hypothetically I'm hoping for a Fire Emblem 6+7 remake in one package with generational game-play. That would be awesome. An offical localization of Legend of Heroes Ao and Zero would be nice to. SMTV would be cool but I kinda think that's a next year thing. Same with Metroid Prime 4.
Other than that looking forward to Persona Strikers, Ys IX, Rune Factory 5, and a Disgaea 6, New Tales of, and Digimon Survive. Would like a PlayStation version of that last one though. Not sure why NISA is not releasing the PS4 version over here. I prefer to play multi-platform games on the more powerful systems...

Zelda II Galaxy 2 also Really though, EPD8 that works on the 3D Mario games already put out Odyssey and are doing the new content to 3D World, so I really hope they're not doing another 3D Mario. Too many groups are just putting out sequels at the moment and I would like to see more variety. A new IP, a new take on a different IP, anything besides 3D Mario really. Digitalnametag - you covered a few things: Intelligent Systems does have a remake team for Fire Emblem starting with Shadows of Valentia which was supposed to be the beginning of a remake series. I think they will stick to earlier remakes for now though than the ones you hope for. SMTV was announced for this year. I don't know if you missed this or are expecting a delay? NISA was pretty vocal about being unhappy with their relationship with Sony/Playstation. Sony aren't really doing anything to create an environment where small to medium sized games sell, especially Japanese ones. Nintendo on the other hand gives a lot of help with promotion. Disgaea 5 flopped on PS4 in the west and then was a hit years later on Switch. We are slowly seeing an attitude shift from Japanese developers of mid sized games where Switch is prioritised. I expect if Sony continues to ignore the market many will drop Playstation ports altogether in time. For Disgaea 6 Switch is the lead platform anyway, so you shouldn't have to worry about poor performance.

But BotW2 will definitely have a unique title, even though this would be an instance where they actually could get away with calling it BotW2, since that's a less specific title than, say, Ocarina of Time. I've talked about this little theory of mine before, but Mario games always come in pairs, so I expect Odyssey to at least get a sequel at some point in the near-future. Maybe they wouldn't call it Odyssey 2, since the whole point of Odyssey was that it was a trip around the world. Though on the other hand, Odyssey did really well, so marketing-wise it wouldn't be so bad to call it Odyssey 2.

For 2021 I've got tons of games in my backlog to explore or revisit: Indie PC titles and Gamecube/PS2 era stuff. Maybe I'll finally replay some longer games like Wind Waker, Okami or Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. I'm also looking forward to discovering obscure stuff from the 8/16/32 generations via emulation. There's always something surprpising to be found.
Naturally there will also be newer things of interest: Metroidvanias are still thriving (Phoenotopia Awakening looks promising) and a PC version of Ninja Warriors Once Again would be cool. At the same time I'm pretty content with what I've already got, which is more than plenty.
My year's motto: It's okay to be missing out.

Speaking of Metroidvanias AND Ninja Warriors (or Natsume SNES era more specific), there’s this gorgeous new game called Bushiden which not only has graphics that looks like it came from the designers of Wild Guns/Ninja Warriors Again, but it seems to have Metroidvania exploration, albeit separate levels instead of one huge map. It looks really really good.

For 2021, besides catching up on a back catalogue of games?
Nier Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139... Gran Turismo 7 (if it even gets released this year)
I should try my hand at modding a Dreamcast with a GDEMU. I have the GDEMU lying around for a few months now, but I haven't set the time aside to really just do it, open up the guts of the Dreamcast, etc.

Hopefully it'll get the combat/exploration balance right. In this case I'd favor a more standard action game with a bit of exploration here and there. The way combat flows seems more suited for that sort of game, rather than a pure Metroidvania.

I agree, and looking at gameplay videos my main concern is that the levels look a bit...empty perhaps? Enemies are too few and far between, and there are no action ”set pieces” to speak of. There also seem to be a bit of repetition as far as enemy variety goes. (Now it suddenly sounds like I don’t like what I’m seeing at all, but it’s more a case of GREAT potential, but still a few concerns...) Hope it’s not just style over substance, cause I sure as hell am impressed by the visuals.

Bushinden does look really nice, but I can't find any recent footage of it.
A few others I didn't see mentioned:
Hazelnut Bastille
Card Shark
Pocky & Rocky

Looking forward to Super Mario 3d World the most (really like to know what Bowser's Fury is going to be.) Also anything Mega Man would be nice too.
