Ommadawnyawn3 - Ravenous for retro games. I hope you can accept the new me hehe.
Considering I've been banned from three online establishments in the last month, maybe I am a little bit impulsive. I shall say no more.

Also that reminded me M.Bison in Street Fighter II Turbo was really tough, I couldn't beat him at more than level 5 difficulty. I'm not sure which difficulty I played, but I do remember he was pretty hard. Still, the worst incarnation of him is in Street Fighter Alpha 3, because you only get one chance, as far as I remember. Who on earth thought that was a good approach in a fighting game?

The final battle against Dracula in the early Castlevania games were pretty tough. Castlevania 1, 3 and the first two Game Boy ones were some that I find hard to do even today even though I know the strategy to take him down. I've not had much experience with CV Bloodlines but I suspect Dracula is hard in this one as well with the limited continues.

Now I have an idea what happened to the original ommadawnyawn... unfortunately its more mundane than I'd originally imagined. Also that reminded me M.Bison in Street Fighter II Turbo was really tough, I couldn't beat him at more than level 5 difficulty. Who on earth thought that was a good approach in a fighting game? Rings a bell but I remember dropping that one quickly - perhaps that's why. Also on Capcom fighters, I remember Magneto in X-Men Children of the Atom and Thanos in Marvel Super Heroes being really tough.

Who on earth thought that was a good approach in a fighting game? They may have taken that from Dural in Virtua Fighter. You only ever get one match to beat her in every game of the series. The idea is that she's special boss rather than a regular final boss, so you still see the end credits even if you lose, but if that's not enough for you, then you'll want to beat her (it's not SNK-hard, anyway). Lots of fighting games have special bosses that only show up if you beat all opponents without losing a single match, too. Rather than see it as an annoying requirement to beat the game, I prefer to think of both concepts as bonuses for those want to play the game longer so they still have something to do once they get decent at it.

Also on Capcom fighters, I remember Magneto in X-Men Children of the Atom and Thanos in Marvel Super Heroes being really tough. I remember Magneto being tough in X-Men: CotA, but I didn't find Thanos so very difficult. Dr. Doom may well be harder than him in some ways, but I guess it depends on your style of play. Or maybe it's just because I've played MSH so much that I actually a got a bit good at it (generally I am not very good at fighting games). MSH is probably my favorite game in the MvC universe. Oh yes, there is Akuma in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Shin-Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2. Both are very hard, but then it is expected. And of course, you only get one try against them.

I think with Thanos, it was more a case of once I learned him he became easy, but he would destroy me for a while. Magneto is really hard though. I found the bosses in the later Capcom Marvel games much easier by comparison.

Maybe I just haven't figured out the patterns properly.

While you can stumble your way through the previous bosses, the final boss of Clock Tower 3 really cranks it up and demands all the game's techniques to be known.
Dark Fact in Ys I is also quite the task to try to get down.
And then there's always Drakengard 1 and 3, who's real final bosses suddenly turn into a rhythm game out of nowhere, so if you aren't good at those, you are SOL.

Oh yeah, Ys I. I pretty much just lucked out on that one (chronicles version).

Never had a problem with Dark Fact. I always get to the max level in Ys 1 though.

Street Fighter fucking 2010!!! Having to go through the gauntlet of enemies, then the end boss... and running out of time! I swear, it'd be much more doable without the time limit.

Thought of another one last night while in bed. The second part of the fight against Rez in Gex 2 is challenging. Not the hardest but one has to get Rez to slam his fist down on a platform to damage him and that requires standing on the platform and dodging his attack is hard. It seems almost luck is necessary to win this fight.
