Hashire Hebereke surprised me for the quality of its sprite art, I think it's on par with some of the better SNES JRPGs out there and that it's almost being wasted on such a goofy isometric racing game based on a series of super-deformed characters.

Huh? Why did I think Herbereke was a puzzler? I've uploaded a few images below. Hopefully I have gotten the right game. Also I really do agree that the Shiren the Wanderer series that Bumpy posted are stunning games.

Basically every game in the Hebereke series is its own genre, from a metroidvania to dropping blocks, an early example of multiplayer brawl, puzzles, nonograms and then Hashire Hebereke that is the running game that you posted. Still think that those graphics are wasted for that kind of game.
