It’s funny how Bergsala even gave name to the street its HQ is located on - Mario’s Street to this day Bergsala did a nice job but I also remember them falling out with Konami at some point in the mid 90’s, right? We missed out on a couple of NES and SNES games because of it, or so I was told. Could be a coincidence though. Haven't heard of this but it could be the case, sure.

Thanks to everyone who brought their memories! To go back to the main topic, I remember reading on one blog that the King Of Fighters series was huge in Mexico and, by extension, the whole 1-vs-1 fighting game genre. Maybe that's why they added the Mexican character of Tizoc to the roster.

Brazil also for KOF (possibly elsewhere in Latin America also). I was hearing about it in the disappointing Smash Terry backlash. Not a region I hear much about with regard to their choice of video games otherwise.

Russia seem to be big lovers of the Visual Novel genre. Some Visual Novels got fan translation and they never got english fan translations or much later, which is interesting.

That's interesting too, in fact now I remember having played a few years ago on Steam a free Russian visual novel named Everlasting Summer. It can somewhat be compared to Katawa Shoujo (anime-esque style, developed on imageboards at around the same time, full of nerdy in-jokes) and also Doki Doki Literature Club (the setting is not what it seems and some routes end up being fairly creepy and disturbing).
