Beyond all logic and reason they're actually two different owls! The logo has the look of what's classified as a "true owl" while the one in the game looks like a barn owl. Psygnosis was only the publisher, and the game was already owl themed before they picked it up. Why they didn't insist on changing the sprite to match their logo is perplexing.

The founder of Technos Japan, Kunio Taki, was the inspiration for their mascot. Wonder if he's still alive?

Captain Commando was Capcom's mascot in their early days. The old NES manuals used to have a cheesy illustration of him saying something like "CONGRATULATIONS FOR BUYING THIS HIGH FIDELITY 8-BIT GAME CARTRIDGE THAT PROMISES HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF PURE CHALLENGE" He also looks completely different than he does in his later arcade game. I think he's also supposed to be the pilot of the ship in Vulgus or something like that. According to the NES manual, he's the pilot in Section Z.
