The Goldbergs does 80s games once in a while and this was a memorable one for Legend of Zelda 1. This is the only video on youtube I can find of the scene.
5:50 in this video if it doesn't take you there,
Here is one for Zaxxon and Punch-Out as well

I don't know the exact episode of Growing Pains, but one had Mike and Ben playing Nintendo. I know this, because the first issue of Nintendo Power showed a screencapture. They used to highlight celebrity Nintendo fans early on, and the first issue had an article on Kirk and Candace Cameron.

The first Beethoven movie had the kids playing the first Super Mario Bros. game, but they were playing it like the game was two players simultaneously.

I was watching Jellystone and Petter Potamus is an otaku who likes anime and listens to KK Slider. Not sure what song, if it is even an official one they licensed, but it sounds like him.

The O.C. features Dynasty Warriors of all things a few times. My quick googling suggests it's DW4 but I can't verify that for sure. There's gameplay footage starting around 0:27 at youtu.be/dnpICYPegYY

In sweden there used to be a morning show where you could call in and play a dubbed version of Hugo on your keypad phone. Dunno how popular that was outside of certain european countries. You could also buy this game so I think some had more practice than others! www.youtube.com/watch?v=doCFB-LNpE0Starts at 1:25. *beeeep* I think the The Wizard movie with SMB3 was the first one I ever saw. This sort of thing doesn't seem quite as special anymore since streaming/video sites and games becoming mainstream blurred the lines between the mediums. Italy did a similar thing in the mid-90s with a show called "The Lion Trophy Show", sponsored by the chocolate snack bar Lion and starring its mascot, turned into a humanoid lion. It seemingly was Italy's first interactive phone show but I remember other kids' programmes having simple phone-based games.
I can only find clips from the first few seasons but it went on for a sizable number of years, and it became increasingly complex: after the really simple first one, Lion gained a girlfriend he had to rescue from a mad scientist, then he gained a human friend and the ability to travel through time and so on.

Cool, thanks for sharing. It looks pretty well made as far as such games go!

Sorry (not sorry) for the necro. I've been revisiting The X-Files recently and just came to the episode which features a video game arcade. You get a brief view of one of the Golden Axe games and Snow Bros plus a decent feature of Virtua Fighter 2. Just like in real life, in the show video games bend to the application of electricity rather than any programming. A good jolt will have you top the leader board of any game. Or perhaps it's only Virtua Fighter 2, that wasn't entirely clear.

Holy crap, Black Jack looks so young. Had no idea he was in X-Files. What a golden time for arcade games.
Here is Van Damme in Bloodsport, making a friend over arcade Karate Champ. A movie that also features Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker.
