King of the Monsters is an A+ concept, a B game on the Neo Geo and this is a C, really more like a C-. They couldn't fit in the two other characters? It's shallow but it's kind of fun but yeah, not much longevity. Definitely rental fodder.

The Game Center CX episode for this one was pretty fun. I'll have to watch it! It's been a while since I watched an episode. King of the Monsters - Rank D
It's a bit of a slog; just not into the control scheme. It was okay to try out for a few rounds, but didn't really hold my interest. I love the concept of a kaiju fighting game. But it's like SNK pitched an idea and pushed out a rough draft. King of the Monsters 2 on the other hand... I love, by leaps and bounds.

I agree with spanky on this one 100%. It was a fun rental, but there isn't too much substance.

I'm way past late but I'll give Go Go Ackman a C. A somewhat weak C but not quite a C-.
Did anyone manage to access hard mode? It didn't seem to work, but maybe it was because I emulated.

Am I allowed to post a link to help you on your quest? (I searched for forum rules but didn't find any.) Generally the mods are pretty cool about posting links and photos, but you could always direct message otherwise. ^__^

Aww... Well, I have bad news either way, because it seems the links are broken now. Years ago, you could get every episode in HD. I may make a torrent someday.

Bubsy, eh? Well, whichever sadists here voted for this got their way. I can't say it's not entirely Halloween themed - after all we're pretty much in the deepest hell of the SNES library here. I'm going to have a bit of a refresher because I just hate myself enough to do so. Meanwhile I'll wait for you to chime in and perhaps explain your votes.

I was one of the folks who voted for Bubsy, and I did it pretty much the idea amused me. That, and it's prolly more reasonable to play through that in the week for any first-timers than something like Final Fantasy VI or whichever one you could vote for. Considering I barely interact with this thread due to not having played most of the games discussed so far, maybe I should grab Bubsy and suffer alongside ye. (Although maybe I'll end up enjoying it, who knows?)

Busy is an awful, awful mascot character which is where the hate comes from. His catchphrases are obnoxious, the design is terrible and it just stinks of trying too hard. He is bad but at least not awesome possum bad.
The game however is... Perfectly serviceable. It's very fast but going fast is to the players detriment because the level design is kind of awful. Once you start taking it slow and learning to deal with the fall damage there's some fun to be had but there's only so much fun to be had from airplane hanger level design. I also find the enemy collision detection a bit off, you can be hit when you really feel like you should have hit the enemy.
I'm going to give this one a C. It's slightly better on the megadrive but not enough to make it more than a C there either.

I didn't vote for Bubsy, but it is a notable enough game that it should come up at some point. Accolade was very clearly riding on the trend of mascot platforms, and they did not have the staff to make that type of game internally. The lead designer was ex-Infocom although his work for Accolade was less lofty e.g the Les Manley duology. The graphics were clearly prioritized, and I do think that they are genuinely excellent with a lot of nice details. The problem is that there's way too many rough edges which drags everything down. I think a C is about right. It has a 7.4 on Mobygames which feels too high but the three stars (Fair) on GameFAQs feels more accurate.

I'll admit I voted for Bubsy. I love the SNES library, the good, the bad.. and the Bubsy.
Bubsy is a Sonic ripoff that more or less completely misunderstands why Sonic actually works. Sonic is fast yeah, but the ring system and the fact he's mostly invulnerable whenever he jumps or rolls means you can generally run around at high speeds to your hearts content. Bubsy does not have any sort of hitpoints or a strong offensive move. He's just really vulnerable and the level designs and physics mean you end up careening into a pit or an enemy any time you pick up speed. Some of the level design is borderline trolling that feels like it's trying to get you killed so you can see all the unique death animations. The game tries to compensate for this by offering lots of extra lives and frequent checkpoints but you end up having to play the game very carefully. The powerups are pretty lousy too. You collect yarn balls but they don't do anything. You have invincibility power ups but no shields, no flying no fireballs or anything cool. Half the items in the crates are designed to just screw you over. There's a lot to explore in the levels but there's nothing noteworthy or beneficiary to find except for more damned yarn balls and an occasional continue.
Funny enough, Bubsy II rectifies most of my problems with this game but is much worse than this overall. Bubsy is mainly remembered for a being the nadir of post-Sonic mascot games but he's definitely not the worst of them. It made an OK rental. It's a C.

For clarification, this weeks poll is a bit of inconsequential fun. I'm just embracing the horrifying madness that is Bubsy week.
After a quick reminder my serious opinion is similar to retr0gamers with regard to the issues he mentioned. There's an oddness to the fact that controls are very momentum driven, but stage design largely counteracts that, with a haphazardness to placement of objects and enemies. I'm going to consider Mr Nutz, since we already covered that as both have that western fuelled collection-driven play at hand. With Mr Nutz though, I feel like items are thoughtfully places in order to intrigue, and movement and stage design are nicely complementary. They are both strong in the visual department. I also find Bubsy obnoxious as a mascot, with sound bytes that even carry through to the stages, and not the most pleasing design. I think we have covered worse games, but as far as mascot platformers go this might be the weakest we've covered so far.
Ranking - D
