I think B+ is adequate. My biggest problem is that they took away the ability to shoot in four directions.

I'll with a B too and also agree that Ghouls 'n Ghosts is better in some ways especially the four way shooting. The one advantage Super does have is that as a console exclusive, it doesn't have the porting issues that the SuperGrafx and Genesis ports of Ghouls 'n Ghosts have.

I can't really give it a higher grade as it's basically a hard NES game in SNES clothing and I'm not masochistic. Controls feel like a minor step back from G&G and fairly outdated for a 16-bit game from three years after the prequel. The slowdown is also a pretty big problem which affects playability. It does have some of my fave graphics on the SNES though and the old music was translated well to the console while the new tracks are also pretty nice overall. CThe hacked version is more of a B, it becomes better balanced and removes most of the slowdown however a lot of the challenge is still from instant death hazards and how the jumps work.

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
My favorite game of the series, which I'll replay the most. Ghost 'n Goblins is pretty ruthless. Ghouls 'n Ghosts definitely was more accessible, and shooting straight up and straight down really helped ease the difficulty. But Super Ghoul's has a balance of graphics, music, enemies, and playability that I enjoy. The plethora of weapons is great, especially with green armor and gold armor adding to the repertoire of attacks. Though I do kinda hate being forced to used the Goddess bracelet on the 2nd playthrough. A lot of good times and good memories for me on this game. Up till 2 AM, eating curly fries dipped in buttermilk sauce from Jack in the Box, taking turns with friends on tackling levels.

I am glad I posted my personal barometer. Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts receives a solid B from me. As a personal bonus, the game entered my life shortly before Halloween (many years ago, of course). I will never be able to separate it from the season.

Its been a long while since I tried this one but I remember it being a pretty solid offering. Never touched the arcade originals so if it is a little compromised with the removal of directional aiming it didn't bother me lol. But whatever the case while I intend to give this a whirl someday on my 3DS I've always found the whole damn series way too hateful to find it something I'd ever love. However it has similar moody vibes to CV so I can at least respect it.
I'll join the chorus and go with B.

Last weeks Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts marks this threads biggest participation for ranked entries! So how do we follow that? Do we finally discuss a classic such as Super Metroid? Nope! We go in the opposite direction with a little known game. If you've not heard of Cacoma Knight, you should at least be familiar with its gameplay, because its a shameless rip off of Qix! Well, Taito wasn't exactly pouring resources into SNES ports so who can blame any imitators that come along? Unlike Qix, Cacoma Knight starts off quite easy - perhaps too much so, before a sharp difficulty curve kicks in late game. I think there's not much of a point where the difficulty seems well measured. The gameplay works well enough, but there's issues with colour clashing between backgrounds and enemy projectiles, so even though the game thrwos lives at you early, losing them often doesn't feel like your fault. Still, Qix is fun enough of a concept to get some enjoyment from this. There's a two player mode, but I've not had the opportunity to test it.

Way too slight of a game even by the standards of Qix. Such a low level count and too many of them are completable in literally seconds. I was really expecting the 7-3 to be the end of the first part not the end of the whole thing! Multiple characters with different stats gives it something to differentiate it I guess.

Mildly fun, but even as far back as the 16 bit era, a Qix style game is going to need a lot more than what this game offers to be really engaging. I like all the anime stylized silliness. A C sounds about right.

Cacoma Knight in Bizyland
No kidding, an updated anime modded Qix clone. Like Tetris, kinda of a decent puzzle game for a mental exercise. Definitely agree, the game is waaaaay too short. Graphics are bright and fresh, but the ending is a bit of a letdown after such colorful prologue build up of cut scenes. Never would of guessed this was a Seta game, though I'm only familiar with Silva Saga II and Nosferatu. It was enough to play as a one-and-done. For Qix clones, I'll stick to the pervy Fantasia and Miss World '96 arcade games that dance the line between nudes and goth horror.

Are the girls in Fantasia even of age? Not convinced. I forgot one of my criticisms of Cacoma Knight - it doesn't tell you how many lives you have. Kinda seems important.

Kinda seems important. To be honest, to meall the women look to be around their mid 20's, like they ripped off stock photos from issues of Biggun's or Gigantic Asses. Or thousands of years old when it switches over to the reject cast of Hellraiser.

This one is more Mario and friends appearing in a Squaresoft RPG than a Mario game with an RPG flavour. It's quirky and interesting but for me I don't find it works most of the time when it comes to gameplay. Despite the 'timed' attack system, battles only occasionally rise above mash 'A' to win and platforming elements I don't think work too well. Characterwork, music and graphics raise this to be decent enough but there's just a good amount of time I'm not having fun with it.
Ranking - C - but like just barely.
