Wanna talk about your fancy Third Strikes or your Marks of Wolvses? Tough luck, this is not the thread for you. And frankly, who wants to play games about baseball or urinating Canidae anyway? That's right: I know exactly one word of Latin and I'm not afraid to use it. And to answer my own question: no one.
So let's talk about the stuff that actually matters. Let's talk about the ones that really tried. So hard. Got an example of a less-than good fighting game that's fascinating nonetheless, preferably one made in the 90s to 00s for your very own personal computer? Then, by all means, go for broke!
Edit: Think of this thread as a wine tasting: Take your time with each individual game at offer. Let it sink in, savour it. Breathe, smell, taste, feel everything it has to offer. Become the game. And then - and only then - spit it out, before it will consume you and drag your poor soul to hell.

Savage Warriors (DOS, 1995) - Love the intro, it's got some serious CDi vibes and you know I love those. But what are those character models? Those don't clash with the painterly backgrounds at all. Just wow!

I posted the other week about Violence Fight so I'll just link the post. There was also a sequel. They're arcades though and so perhaps not the one-on-one Crime Wave you're looking for. The worst fighter we ever owned was the PS1 crapfest Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi... Perhaps more in line with thread expectations is Cat Fight I don't think I need to explain this one but check the roster.

Speaking of odd French PC fighting games, there's also Silmarlis's Time Warriors from 97 that plays like a crummy Soul Blade.

excelsior No worries, both Violence Fight and Teräs Käsi do count. I even played both briefly at one point. I also think Violence Fight might've served as inspiration for Pit Fighter, another hot candidate for this thread.
And by now it's probably common knowledge, but Teräs Käsi is Finnish for "Steel Hand" as oposed to Tekken's "Iron Fist". And steel beats iron, so take that, Namco!

Fight for Life for the Atari Jaguar
9:14 for boots so high that anyone would be jealous But she gets electricuted to seemingly no end at 10:53 21:48 for the best walk animation you ever saw
Great names like Jenny, Pog and Mr.G. Biggest problems seem to be a lack of polish and presentation quality.
Cat Fight seems like something out of my nightmares. The presentation is so unintentionally kitsch though I kind of have to love it. Check it.

Is this rag on Teräs Käsi week or something? Justin Wong did a video trashing it a few days ago. I had a lot of fun playing it multiplayer, but the move inputs are weird and it plays way more slowly than other games at the time. LucasArts 100% should have taken Capcom on their offer to make a 3D Star Wars fighting game instead of doing it themselves, but I still like it well enough.

I forget what it's called but there's an incredibly amateurish looking (looks like it was drawn in MS Paint) and gruesome DOS fighting game from the mid 90s. I figure that doesn't narrow it down...I think it was made by a couple of high schoolers.
I also know it's quite a bit better than the other games that are going to be subjects in this thread but I find the original Killer Instinct fascinating. It has Nintendo branding all over it, but it has a dark dystopian setting, mild fatalities, tons of blood and even a finisher where the lone female character rips her top off. I can't think of a better snapshot of the Play It Loud era..

Don't tell me that's what led to the development of Star Gladiator - Episode 1: Final Cusade? (edit: That game is too good for this thread, the game's title is allowed to stay, though )
I will need some more time to fully appreciate the glory of Fight for Life and Catfight. Regarding Fight for Life, here's a video of someone actually making a case for it: And I do respect anyone who's willing to sink that much time into a game that looks like, well, like Fight for Life. But no matter whether it's actually good or bad, it's hilarious regardless!

edit: The game wouldn't happed to be Dangerous Streets, would it?

No, believe it or not, it's much cheaper looking than that, and I can't seem to find it for the life of me...

No, believe it or not, it's much cheaper looking than that, and I can't seem to find it for the life of me... I was afraid this one might've been too classy. But we will get through this. Together. I promise*.
